Official start of the "New Blog" experiment for newbies and new to blogs, etc etc...

Well, I guess the thing to do is start building some blogs from scratch, to test the whole "its realistic and profitable for newbies to start with blogs." thesis.

So, if anybody has been following this discussion, this is the thread for actually starting the experiments.

So if you want to start a blog, I'll try to help you, and where my knowledge fails I'm sure there will be plenty of advice and suggestions to choose from.

    So, to do this,
-you need to get a name or names.
-you have to install the blog script.
-you have to outfit your blog with the theme and plugins and modifications that you'll want and need.
-and you have to operate the blog by writing the content for it.

And then watch the money roll in.

Let's see, to summarize just a few of the points made in the debate thread.

    1. Niche it as deep as possible.
    2. To a certain extent, treat it like a freesite, by submitting it to various traffic sources.
    3. (?) Treat each post like a mini gallery with many pics and text, to bring the visitors back.

    ---

Here's my example, and my first experiment in this experiment series, on a new domain name.

    http://bangmebear.com/

Not very deeply niched - so I'll make another one in a bit that is deeper.

Some hours of work in it already - already significantly longer than it takes to make a freesite - mostly spent in minor adjustments to the theme, tho making the first post took longer than one would like, partly because of messing with the basic built-in tools for handling images.

Some minor tweaks to the css, to increase the size of the text and make the links more attractive to the click.

Lots of work to do yet obviously.

    ---

So, if you are interesting in getting a learning boost with this blogging stuff, start trying to start a blog, and no question is too dumb to be asked.

looks like a good start, i would limit my pics to 2 or 3 of those size per post, or make them a bit smaller so that the post length is not so long. Also, you will want to add sections for your blogroll and blog directories blogroll, as that's how you will get your traffic flow starting.

I look forward to checking back in a few to see how it looks with multiple posts on your main page.

i still don't care for the text between the pics, and i agree with luke - less pics if you're going that big. did you get this content from the site or license it from ounique.com? i'm pretty sure his name is jeff and he's a pornstar.

if you got the pic from the site - the right thing to do - you should be writing about him as a model from their site, mentioning the site by name once. you should not be promoting two sponsors with one set of pics. and your text seems to be about you rather than the model - "and this is just the kind of man to loosen me up and make me scream!" "makes me start to get a little weak in the knees" "makes me imagine being with him". then the fantasy isn't about a bear - it's about a sugar daddy. write about what you see - he's masculine, his body is VERY hairy, he's got a beard, he's got a hard pierced cock, hairy legs. all those things are keywords and triggers, and are the things hair man fans are turned on about.

put a text list of your bear sponsors on the right column, and those links to cameraboys? the guys aren't hairy. if you can't control those, perhaps better to replace them with some hairy men buttons that are all the same size but don't all match like these. your trades also go on the right, btw.

Going even more definitive within a general niche. Like Amateurs easily goes into a subniche: Amateur Bears, Amateur Barebackers, Amateur Asians, etc. Now to go deeper find something others get off with within that subniche ... mature amateur Asians. Now you're deeply niched.

Deeply niched means getting as exotic and specific as you can with your keywords and your selling.

Bears are not too deeply niched - they are niched a bit more deeply than just general gay, or gay hardcore, but to take the niche deeper I might have chosen "muscle bears", or "mature bears", or "leather bears" - as possible examples.

"Leather bears interracial" would be even more deeply niched.

The idea is, there's less competition for keywords the deeper you niche. There's also less traffic typically. So it's a kind of tradeoff.

Personally, I always thought "sell what you know" is one of the best strategies, and one could make the argument that it's just as good a plan as going deeply niched.

Ooops, bec had already answered - anyway, thats what it means.

To reply to Basschick's (and also Luke's) coments - well, firstly, my goal wasn't to present a 'finished' site, it was to do X amount of hours of work, and set it up as an example, so that as it progressed other new blogmakers could see how it developed.

So, I put up what I figured was a minimal platform. Right now this is a virgin domain with no links up, I figure I have time, just as any other newbie blogger would have, to perfect the site.

I agree about the cam ads - but again, wanted a minimal example platform. So far I haven't found a "live" cam ad that delivers true bear content, and may have to go to a fixed button. Just wanted an example of an iframe in the sidebar.

Yes, thats purchased licensed content, used in a recent freesite. The number of pics was chosen because you critiqued me before for putting up too few pics with too little cock - as i recall, you suggested 3-10, I settled on 6.

Resizing the pics would have added extra time - since I'm comparing this to the profitability of freesites, if I have to resize my pics every time I want to make a blogpost, AND select out the pics as well, well, that single post already took me as long to create as it takes me to build the basic structure of a freesite. I was just happy that these pics fit inside the column, hahahah.

Clearly the built in image tool for this latest version of wp isn't ideal for making these kinds of posts.

Any suggestions on what the best image and gallery making plugin to use for creating posts like these, anybody?

If anybody else wants to set up and install their first blog, but has questions and worries that they won't be able to do it, ask teh questions here, either before you start or as you are starting.

Installing wordpress is pretty easy - we can get you thru that no trouble, trust me.

Picking and finetuning your theme, which gives your blog the look you want, is significantly harder. But, every problem has a solution. And, most of this stuff is totally free, so the only expense is your time. And when you're done your knowledge base is all that much bigger.

Writing and creating the posts - now that can be tougher yet. I'm a decent writer, but it's still like pulling teeth sometimes.

I find creating a character is the easiest way for me to handle it. the character can be 'over the top' in ways that I personally could never be, and putting myself into the character mindspace often frees up my ability to write what is essentially mindless crap.

Wordpress is totally free. So are most themes and plugins.

You can do this with no out-of-pocket expense at all.

Google 'wordpress' and take a look at the wordpress.org site - thats where you download wordpress itself.

You can put the blog into a folder in your existing site name - easy to do. Consider this one your "learner" blog.

But, later you'll probably want to get a name for another blog.

The "hardest" thing about installing wordpress is that you will need to set up a database - chances are you can do this in the control panel you already have at your host, and almost certainly for free, unless you have a bad host that charges extra for stuff that most hosts provide as part of the basic package.

the thing is that all those things i said have to do with sales, not how the blog looks. i think part of why this started is that some people weren't making sales with their blogs, and i'm addressing things that affect them.

using sponsor content is how to make sales because your blog can tell surfers where the content came from and that they can get more like it. also the text comments i make were especially related to sales on blogs.
