    I Wonder? Tube site questions...

    Hey Folks...

I have been a busy boy getting my "Tube site" going. You can take a peek here. I don't have any content in yet or ads cause I have been working on the design. I have still have one or two minor issues to deal with, then I can add some content.

Here's my question for those of you in-the-know. Should I:

    A. Not allow any sponsor content except my own?

    B. Allow sponsor content?

    C. Allow sponsor content only to affiliates willing to sign-up under me with a sponsor?

Also if any of you have a program that has downloadable or embeded clips, please PM me. i really need some good honest programs to use so I have plenty of options for populating my site.

    Thanks - maxx

other tube sites allow sponsor content and surround it with banners & links (plus embed a link in the flash player) to the site it is upselling to. I think that solution works best, it gets you loads of free tube content and you get credit for any signups too.

by the way, the site looks like its off to a fine start...but the popup acts strangely in firefox, laying under the "watched now" video strip

    Thanks Luke...

I like your suggestion about allowing others to post sponsor content and then branding the embed.

As far as the scroller goes...I paid for the damn thing and cannot change the colors and like you said it's over-lapping. I may need to change it out with something else.

I think you're missing the point of running a tube site. You need a banner for the sponsor on the page with that video - linked up with YOUR ID CODE so that when a surfer goes off to view the whole movie -- he's carrying your affiliate ID to the sign up page.

You can ask sponsors to upload videos on your behalf, but the links are ALL YOURS. If you go over to www.rockettube.com ... all the banners link out to the movie's sponsor using the JUB affiliate link.

So it really doesn't matter who you list on your sponsor page and telling others not to upload em -- it's moot, their site ID coded links never appear on your site.

I'm also curious why you're starting out with a tube site where you host the videos? Do you have any clear idea of just how much bandwidth those sites burn through?

I'm not trying to bust your high on this project, I just don't want to see you selling off the car and putting a second mortgage on the house to cover your hosting bill. :coffee:

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

    Max,

I agree with Bec buddy, if you are actually hosting the videos its going to cost you a small fortune in bandwidth costs especially if you havent got any banners to your sponsors linked up on the site.

In other news... You might want to head on over to http://www.tubetender.com and signup and throw a couple of banners up to http://www.gaytubeaccess.com its actually selling pretty well right now and would be a perfect match to use on your tube site

    Regards,

    Bandwidth is a definite issue.....

We run the following tube sites:

    http://www.jizzflixxx.com
    http://www.pissflixxx.com
    http://www.feetflixxx.com
    http://www.gayfetishflixxx.com

All the sites are gay and do pretty well. We currently have 3 servers running the four sites and will be adding a fourth in a few weeks. I would say that the most important thing of running a tube site is the bandwidth and the servers. You will need to have the ability add servers on the fly. make sure your script allows you to add servers. If not, you could potentially have issues down the road. It's better to prepare in advance for the future than try to fix a problem when your already running full steam ahead. Our site jizzflixxx.com crashed a few times in the beginning due to lack of knowledge on our part. Once the users start coming in and the bandwidth gets sucked down there is no stopping it or putting it on hold. So be prepared!!!

I do recommend using sponsor content as well as your own. The more the better. These sites grow fast!

If you have any questions do not hesitate to AIM or ICQ me. I'll gladly give you a helping hand....

Sure there is... there's the Xtube approach of simply pulling the video servers offline during the high-traffic hours so that customers will go to another tube site

But seriously... I really agree that most people starting tube sites have no idea the amount of bandwidth they will run through if they become popular, and this is where having a "value provider" for bandwidth becomes really important. Making a good deal on a CDN would probably also increase availability and spread the load as well.

Did you use an off-the-shelf tube script, or have something written custom for it? We're working on a project that will be bandwidth intensive and one of the issues we're thinking about is scaling, so I'm curious what others have done.

So Maxxx ... what did you decide to do regarding the tube site? You've been awfully quiet about it.

    Hey Bec...

I pulled the damn thing down! I purchased a script and all the extras only to get it up (hee, hee) kinda, but the support staff was the worst! Three weeks to answer a trouble ticket! They expect the kids who moderate the forums to answer all the questions. Then I paid someone to do some coding and they started then disappeared.

    It wasn't worth the head-ache.

I'm thinking of getting out of porn, but then again I've been saying that for 4 years. I really want to do something with my digital art, so we'll see.

    Thanks for asking, though.:humble:
