How Well Do You Know Your Audience Demographic?

So i was wondering, after spending the last couple of hours going through the last 12 months of stats in CCBill and coming up with some customer demographics, how many of us actually know the audiences we're catering to?

I was actually quite surprised to see that a lot of womens names appeared on transactions associated with 'twink' type sites which made me wonder if these customers really were females or, if these womens husbands/boyfriends were using their credit cards to join porn sites?

That in itself also posed a couple of interesting questions, if there are women joining gay twink sites, why, when there is an abundance of well done 'for women' paysites in the marketplace already and, if these were guys using their wives/girlfriends cards, do twinks attract a larger audience of 'bisexual' or 'closeted' men?

Do you think there is any way that we can actually pull true demographics when it comes to our target audiences or is it pretty much a crap shoot?

Hi Lee, it's been a while since I've posted but you bring up an interesting question...and from a billing perspective I've asked myself that question before; they seem to often be loyal customers as well.

I'd like to consider whether the hetero/bi/down low guys are buying subscriptions on a card that they gave their wives or girlfriends to keep up appearances and manage the bills so that the wife doesn't have to worry about bills and things...just go shopping...

Or whether when the wife gets a call or letter in the mail that her card is over the limit because it hasn't been paid and she calls the billing company and makes her husband/boyfriend call back to prove he never authorized those charges and he does a chargeback...

when we saw this trend with shemale, the guys hadn't given their wives/girlfriends cards - they simply used their significant others' cards without permission. this came up a lot when we had some chargebacks, first. i talked to a lot of the guys and they admitted they used their wives/gf's cards - they had a variety of excuses but some just said they didn't want the site showing on their cards.

in most cases, the women read their credit card statements and charged back because they knew they hadn't made the charges and tended to call ccbill and find out what it was they were billed for. when asked, their husbands/bf's assured them that they would NEVER join such a site so the women believed the evil porn site had billed them for a subscription no one signed up for.

btw, the women i know - college students, checkers at the market, postal workers, mothers, even my own mom - tend to prefer muscle guys but we haven't had that many women's names appearing on the cards. maybe guys into twinks and shemales feel they have more to hide - and aren't smart about how they try to hide it

About 80% of joins that come from affiliates sending fraud cards are woman's cards. Watch which affiliates are sending those women's names. Mostly coming from the philippines with US or Canadian proxies.
