Anyone Watching The Oscars This Evening?

Was just curious if any of you folks were going to be watching the awards ceremony tonight?

    Regards,

Personally, I find the Razzie awards far more interesting than the Oscars.

I thought all of Paris Hilton's Razzies were hysterical. The Hottie and the Nottie -- cost $2 million to make, netted $27,000 at the box office. And not only was she star, she was the executive producer. That's hysterical.

There were relevant movies to the gay wide community in 2008... Milk, The Reader, Doubt, Twilight, even Slumdog...

They were fun to watch, and meaningful in their history.

Actually, he starred in Skins before he was the lead in Slumdog

His character Anwar in Skins is actually the role that got him the lead in Slumdog

The show itself is way too long to watch. I do highlights only.

I liked how the TV broadcast started early and ended early.

I really liked the change in format that had a host with performance talent, do song and dance tributes to the nominees. One can only take so much of insult and put-down spewing comedians, during a show that embraces a much broader view of talent and entertainment.

I was very impressed with the technique used to present the four major awards to actresses and actors. Bringing back five iconic figures to give a "performance review" was inspiring, again in marked contrast to put-down spewing comedians.

The TV commentators could have spent a little less time fretting over fashion, and could have asked more substantive questions on the red carpet of honorees, other than "what does it feel like when teen age girls scream when they see you?".

Again in the context of the current economy, I was impressed that more show time was given to the technical awards, thus giving the audience a greater sense of there being vocational opportunities in the industry. One normally thinks of the movie business in terms of the actors and actresses, but even we webmasters and studio producers know there's many more jobs behind the camera as in front of - and our economy at present is hurting for jobs for talented people, and talented people for jobs.

I enjoyed seeing "Slumdog Millionaire" at one of Hollywood's top movie theaters during Christmas week, however as one who often hangs up the phone when someone in India answers the customer service number I just dialed, I couldn't get too excited about how all of the India hype during the broadcast last night.

What was up with the sound on that show?

It was really bad. It made the songs and music sound all garbled.
