Something That Most Webmasters Do That I Never Understood...

Why is it that most adult webmasters continually try to increase their traffic levels, even if they arent making any new sales?

Im always seeing threads on a variety of forums saying that people are working on building up their traffic levels, yet with this incrrease of traffic, no increase in sales come.

Surely it would make more sense for these people to maintain high levels of profit than to raise their expenses and decrease the amount of profit that they are making from their sites?

Dont these webmasters realize that the more traffic they get, without making more sales, means they actually make less money in the long-term?

    Regards,

    Lee

You've fallen victim to one of the classic blunders. The first is "never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is "don't expect webmasters to behave in a rational, logical manner when porn is being sold!"

If you don't recognize the movie I paraphrased there, you must face the wrath of...BDSM Banana :donmike:

Seriously, though, I can see why people make that mistake. If they are converting a high percentage of their traffic, it makes perfect sense to spend the money to increase the same type of traffic to the site(s) involved, but some people don't see that good ideas aren't necessarily good ideas when you change the conditions.

I know what you mean, but, more traffic can equate to more dollars if you know how to monopolize your traffic properly....its just kinda sad that those that are so traffic hungry usually don't know how to do this.

Similar to what you said, Lee, I have never understood webmasters that keep trying to increase their traffic even though their sites are so poorly designed.

If a webmaster wants to double his gross income, he can:

A - double his traffic, something that costs a lot of money
B - improve his website to double the rate at which people sign up, convert from trials to memberships, and/or rebill each month.

When you factor in the costs of an extended traffic campaign vs. the labor costs necessary to fix poor design issues the net return become even greater.

Not to mention that if a webmaster is focusing on buying more traffic while his competitors are improving user experience on their websites, those competitors are eventually going to start buying traffic with much higher returns on their efforts for doing so.
