Do You Think Paysite Owners Care TOO Much About The Surfer?

By that i mean, do you think a lot of paysite owners are actually losing revenues because they seem to 'care' to much about their customers?

I see threads all the time on message boards about making it easier for members to download/view content, make recurring billing an 'option', lowering prices of a membership, adding more content to keep members rebilling, offering 'free' memberships to customers, adding 'bonus' sites, etc, etc, etc...

Do you think that a lot of these people running paysites that are doing this are actually cutting their noses off to spite their faces?

I mean bottom line is this, we're in the business of selling porn to make money, surely the surfer should be joining our paysites on our terms as paysite owners / business operators, not on their terms?

Your thoughts, do you think we [as an industry] have taken caring about the surfer to the extent where we're pretty much willing to lose money just so long as the surfer/member is 'happy'?

    Regards,

    Lee

No. I believe that while we are in the business to make money, it is inherently more profitable in the long-run to do it in a customer-friendly fashion PROVIDED you have an interest in following a set of ethics at all.

It's actually probably more cost-effective to become a spam lord and inundate everyone's e-mail boxes with tons of crap. Their idea is to make money as well, but they don't care if they're doing it in an unethical manner.

Fortunately, I believe that making a usable website that delivers what it promises is an inherently more profitable matter in the long run. Although I have to admit, as the owner of a website that reviews gay websites I do profit from the fact that there are "scruple-less" webmasters out there. If all websites presented themselves well, provided an accurate assessment of the contents inside, and delivered what was promised, the need for review sites would diminish greatly.

How would you define 'customer friendly' out of interest?

Do you think not allowing rebilling memberships is customer friendly? What about letting customers download thousands upon thousands of gigs of content for a single monthly membership price point? What about updating a members area every single day with exclusive content? What about offering no consoles on tours and no up-sells in the members area?

My point is, there is customer-friendly, and there is business-unfriendly and a lot of paysite owners do not seem to know where that line should be drawn.... They literally are giving away the cart and the horse that goes with it....

I recently saw a paysite that literally offered FULL LENGTH downloadable DVD movies that were not cut in to scenes... Entire DVDs, hundreds of them, for a cost of $19.99... No recurring option... In .zip files.

Thats bad business, not just for that site owner, but for ALL of us.

The more a surfer/member begins seeing this sort of stuff, the more they will expect it from everyone... Which in turn will mean that we will all have to starting giving our stuff away for what is, in essence, free.

If all websites presented themselves well, provided an accurate assessment of the contents inside, and delivered what was promised
To the best of my knowledge, most websites do this right now, there are obviously some exceptions to this rule but i would say a good 95% of all adult sites these days deliver EXACTLY what is said on the tours.
