Florida is one of 16 states without a law that bans people from having sex with animals and one state lawmaker is working to change that.

Sen. Nan Rich has introduced legislation that would ban bestiality and make it a felony crime.

Rich has a file full of information about acts of bestiality in Florida. She says there is strong evidence that people who engage in sexual conduct with animals are threats to commit sex crimes against children and others.

Sen. Rich says police and state attorneys are asking her to sponsor the bill because they have handled cases in which someone sexually abused an animal, but then were unable to bring charges since there’s no law against bestiality.

Rich says unfortunately there are people engaging in such deviant behavior and they need to be prosecuted.

A similar bill failed to pass the Legislature last year, but Rich is confident the proposal will be approved this year.

Florida did have a law against bestiality at one time, but it was overturned by a judge who ruled it was too broad.

From what i understand, Alaska is also considering a ban on bestiality which would mean in essence, Palin and her kids wont be having sex for a very long time.
