Is There Any Way To Speed Up Sorenson Squeeze?

We currently have a batch of 50 new DVDs we're going to be splitting and adding to the Condom Cash members area but right now, these DVDs have been encoding for about 5 days and they are only 26% completed as of right now.

Does anyone know if there is a way to speed up Sorenson so that it doesnt take as long to encode media files but, we can still use the same settings for the actual encoding?

Right now it is the only application open on a machine with over 2G ram and 2x64AMD processor and im actually thinking that it is going to slow, is this normal for such a large amount of files?

In the past i have used different settings when encoding movies so im wondering if it is slow because there is something wrong or, if it is going so slowly because of the high quality of the movies im encoding?

    Regards,

    Lee

you have several options - you can lower the bitrates, lower the fps or get a faster computer. more ram and a more powerful video card or processor would all help.

and yes, it's normal for any non-hardware solution to take that long with that much to work with. figure you're talking about encoding approx 200 full scenes and probably at least 75 hours of encoded video.

Okay cool, i dont really want to lower the bitrates the whole reason im upping these new DVDs is so that i have higher quality content inside some new sites im working on hehe

I just wasnt sure if it was something i was doing wrong, the last time i encoded movies was a few months back and it wasnt anywhere near as many as im doing now.

    Thanks for the info Patti

best suggestion is to get a faster computer....specifically a mac pro 8-core processor desktop with 8GB+ RAM and use mac software. Its about a $3-4K investment that is well worth it.

And you can write it off on your taxes as a genuine business expense

Well im still encoding this same batch of movies (had to restart twice because of power outages) and i just worked out that right now, its going to take another 5 days for the entire set of 50 DVDs to be finish encoding LOL

Might be time to invest in a bigger, stronger, faster machine for this LOL

One other thing you can look at is your encoding settings... there are some single-pass and some two-pass encoding options. Within the same codec (for example, H.264 or Windows Media) there is a quality difference between the one and two-pass settings, but honestly, for most porn content, the difference between them is going to be pretty minimal, and it will speed up the time by 25 or 30%.

Also, I am told, but haven't done a head-to-head, that Sorenson (or, for that matter, Compressor, the Mac/Final Cut equivalent) is much, much faster on an equivalently outfitted Mac, because... big surprise... the crappy Windows OS takes a lot of overhead.
