How Would You Value In-House Traffic Vs Affiliate Traffic?

In terms of which is worth more?

Do you think affiliate traffic is worth more to a program or in-house traffic overall?

For me id have to say that in-house traffic is intrinsically worth more to me than affiliate traffic is because once i have it, im able to do pretty much anything that i want with it whereas affiliate traffic can come and go and is very rarely reliable on any given day (with a few exceptions).

What are your thoughts, do you think in-house or affiliate traffic is of more value to a program owner?

From looking at our stats, I would say we get far better conversion ratios from affiliate traffic than in-house traffic (I'm guessing you are referring to traffic from searches and type-in traffic). We have some very brandable domain names, and I think that is one reason why we get so many hits from people who just keep coming back to rub one out to the free stuff on the tours. Teens for Cash, Twinks for Cash, Rookie Guys, Milf Seeker, Her First Lesbian Sex, Hot Muscle Dudes...they are too damn easy to remember so people just type it in, burn some of our bandwidth watching the sample clips a couple of times, then do it all again the next week when there are new samples.

If traffic comes from an affiliate, that means the person is coming to our site based on samples they saw on the affiliate's site, likely because they want to see way more than what freebies were on that gallery or what-have-you.

I always thought the idea of a tour was to sell the site, not give away free porn so the surfer never has to pay :eek:

You guys might want to investigate this and actually see if removing the stuff on your tours will increase conversions/sales.

I've been concerned for some time that we were "giving away the store" with the extensive tours. We're not as bad as Brazzers (their main tour gives you about an hour total of material between all the previews), but there's still an awful lot of content outside the members area. I'll bring this up to my boss when I go to raid the candy dish on her desk

Ive been saying for years that there is no incentive for surfers to join sites when they are given that much content for free but nobody seems to understand that, i really do beleive it isnt going to be long until affiliates and paysite owners start offering up full scenes for free as 'samples' which will then lead to full DVDs and then full access, turning the paysite business model in to nothing more than companies offering access to their sites for free and monetizing them via upsells and plugins in the members area.

Within the next 2 years im 100% positive this will be how adult companies start producing sites.
