Affiliate Promo Tools In Program Webmaster Areas

I was wondering if anyone knew whether it would be worthwhile actually putting paysite promo tools on the paysites domain and linking to them from the affiliate program page for promo materials vs. having them hosted on the affiliate programs domain name itself?

Im thinking there could be an advantage to having the links going to banners (from the webmasters area of the program) that are hosted on the paysites domain name in terms of link popularity, but at the same time, im not sure if this would be relevant or not because id only be linking to image files and not actual 'pages' per se.

Does anyone know if link popularity works when you hotlink images from a specific domain name, as in gives the root domain extra incoming links, or whether hotlinking images doesnt really do anything and an actual 'page' has to be linked in order to gain link pop?

Last I heard hotlinked images contribute nothing to the authority or PageRank of the site hosting them.
