    back on 56K - YUCK!!!

    My modem which is I need for my broadband connection died on me yesterday, so I suffer on a 56K dial-up until I can get it swapped. Yup, its the 3rd modem I have gone through since January.

    I will be on 56K for the next week or so until I get my replacement so I will probably be pretty quiet here.

    I have to go dialup when I'm in San Francisco. I usually end up going to the internet cafe and to get work done. When I do try to work with dialup over there (which at some point I have to) I only connect at a whopping 14k !

    See, there are worse things than 56k if you can believe that.

    Ya know what is really funny is that I can browse faster on my PDA using GPRS over my mobile phone line (it gets a strong 56K) than I can browse via my dialup connection (usually can connect at 50K only).

    Gotta love technology!

    I can't really recall getting anything close to 56k on a consistent basis -- more like 30-50 ... sometimes even 24k! Man, those seem like the dark ages now!

    We had a storm that knocked cable out for a little while. It was torture using dial up.
