Why Do Adult Webmasters Always Want To Give The Surfer More?

It seems that no matter what the question is, if it is about the business side of membership sites the answer always comes 'more content, more updates, lower prices, more sites, etc, etc'.

Dont these people that are constantly selling the virtues of offering more to make money realize they are killing the industry for us all?

I was reading a thread Michael started earlier on GayDemon about offering access to his members area to UKNM members and everyone is sayiing that he should basically keep doing it... Even though it appears not to be working for him right now like he was hoping it would.

I mean seriously, lets just give everything we can away for free to the surfers and give them all the option of paying 'if they feel like it' it isnt going to be to much longer before that is what the porn business model is reduced to... Taking donations.

Crazy stuff.

I think to some extent it's the classic error made by people make who don't understand marketing; the concept of the Unique Selling Proposition (USP). People who use price, discounts, or free stuff as their USP find that there's nothing unique about it, as their competitors quickly match whatever price/discount is offered, so a USP that consists of price (or discount) is the worst possible choice.

But... since there are so many webmasters with no business sense, and so much competition these days, many webmasters feel forced to compete and develop a USP in whatever way they can. Adding more content or giving more away is the easiest way to do this.

It's a lot harder to develop something really unique that no one else can offer and thereby take one's site out of the competitive marketplace and sell it based on whatever USP you develop. It can be done, but I don't think anybody thinks about it.

I agree, i have NEVER offered bonus access to any of the Condom Cash websites, if a surfer wants to see the good stuff, they have to join, its that simple and guess what, they do and i make money.

Ive been thinking about this more and more the last hour or so and it really does seem like webmasters want to totally kill the porn business.

We've already fucked up the physical product market, now we're right on our way collectively to fuck up the online porn market too.

Oh man, I sure hope that isn't the case. I've been a Webmaster for just about 5 years now, and with it being my bread and butter that is the last thing I aim to do. LOL. I do know what you mean though. There was a time when a cumshot was a no-no in a preview video. Now..they're everywhere. Folks want to go-with-the-flow I guess. Do all these longer videos and free cumshots convert to more sales? I don't think so. Again, way too much for free. The cumshot is the finale' in any scene. Why show it for free?

i agree i was talking to a program rep from one of the other gay boards a couple of days ago and he was telling me that to make real sales i should send him my traffic and that he would give me lots of exclusive hardcore content to use on my sites including movies and pics showing full cumshots when i asked why someone would join a site if they saw everything already he just said because they will to see more

Yes, and you will get that a lot. The jury is still out on this kind of thing Rich. Personally, I think a 1 minute video with some good segments portraying the action is good enough. I don't believe in cumshots in preview trailers. There are some who hate me for that, but oh well. LOL. By including finale' cumshots and lengthy previews (5 mins and more), we really are just giving it away for free. If someone is horny enough they can cum in 2 mins for crying out loud. Why go buy a membership after that?!

Anyway, it's a very controversial thing from my experience. Keep them horny enough to click on that tour, show a scene JUST before the cumshot and with the right traffic, watch the sales come in eventually. I've tested it and it works.

My advice to you Rich - if you don't mind me giving it - accept the long videos, edit them without cumshots and just include a really hot segment, and I bet you'll get at least more clicks on your affiliate links. I'm no Guru in this industry, but I have been at it for 5 years now and I've tried everything under the sun. This strategy works for me, and it works for the UKScallyLads affiliates as well from what they tell me.

Sounds like someone who posted on another board recently bestowing the virtues of 5+ minute long hardcore clips to post on tube sites.
