What is always running on your computer?

I am notorious for having a few too many things running on my laptop at a time.

I am a browser whore and always have at least 10 tabs open over 2 or three instances. That is a huge resource eater, but whatever.

I am wondering what you, as a gay webmaster, always have up and running on your computer?

Here's my list of things that are usually always open in my task bar:

    • 2 or 3 instances of Chrome
    • 2 Excel spread sheets both running in their own window
    • MS Word
    • 1 or 2 instances of Notepad
    • Nifty Stats
    • ICQ
    • AIM (sometimes)
    • Twhirl (for my "gay" Twitter accounts)
    • TweetDeck (for my "real life" Twitter account)

Your turn! Perhaps we'll get ideas from each other on tools we're not using that we should be!

For instance, if you do not have a Twitter account for your business, what are you waiting for? I have over 700 followers for @QueerLust in less than two months with minimal effort. It drives A LOT of traffic and I've made a few friends through it.

I also have @PornAffiliates that I recently started -- I tweet webmaster referral links.

LOL, I don't feel so bad for myself now.

You are using a lot of resource intensive programs right there. I prefer Chrome over any other browser but it sure does eat up a lot of RAM. I also love Safari but for some reasons I cannot do certain things on the sites I love most with it so I do not run it as much as I would like. I gave up on IE a long time ago.

Coda (coding IDE with integrated sFTP)
    Adium (multi protocoll messenger)
    Safari 4 (webkit engine)

running when needet: Opera and Firefox (pronto and gecko engine), Photoshop cs4, Thunderbird.

Mostly I have the three browsers for their different engines: since IE is not avail for Mac (which I think is not a loss in this really awesome user experience world now) and Chrome is not avail yet its just those three.

    *looks into the Dock*

no, not much more needet here in my little world
    :-D

firefox is still my main browser but i've gone somewhat back to IE since IE7 and IE8 especially as firefox has started to crash for me so often now.

it also doesn't behave well past 800MB, and now IE has all tabs as separate processes

i have the tendency to read a site and click links into new tabs so I end up with gajillion tabs...

I tried Chrome but the tabs way up on top felt odd and it wasn't compatible with Win7 when I tried it

I leave things running, never shut my machine, so it's there when I need it. Think I'll be adding another 4 or 8GB ram soon

Right now, just one page of firefox and my email.

    However, yesterday I had:
    SmartFTP
    CoreFTP
    Dreamweaver
about 14 webpages open in Firefox
    Photoshop
Pidgin (a messenger where you can run AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo all on one application)
    Internet Explorer

Yesterday was a really rough day for us. We had many things going at once.
We completed a server move from Godaddy to national net.
We purchased a CMS and got that installed.
Fed Ex, UPS, USPS all showed up 5 minutes apart from each other.
CCBill was having problems with their password scripts
and then a storm blew in and a couple sheets of siding fell off the house.

    But today is better now!

My ancient 3 year old once "powerful" iMacG5 has a speck of RAM (1.5 GB), so I need to limit how many things are running at once or nothing works. I definitely need a new computer when I can afford it.:shithitfan: :cash:

It may have been rough, but you got a ton accomplished, so kudos for that.
