Porn - With A Plot Or Not?

Was curious, we were talking to one of our friends last night about various porn related things and the subject of 'plots' and 'storylines' came up, we agreed that a plot or storyline didnt really do anything for us in porn but what about you folks, do you prefer watching porn that has a storyline or plot to it or, are you more a get down and dirty, straight in to the action porn fan?

The feedback we get from our members and DVD buyers is split. The majority don't seem to care at all about the plots or setups, but some seem to really enjoy the fantasy set up, particularly if it's done with a certain degree of "campiness" or humor.

As with any type of motion picture, some viewers want the visual experience, and some want to be told a story.

The thing with porn is that it is a tough call to try to force feed too much of a story to the viewer.

Sex is a personal thing, and like two snowflakes, no two people have the same personal needs for sex. If the producer/story teller tells too much, the viewer can get turned off - or at least taken down the wrong tangent.

Better to let the viewer's imagination run wild, than a Producer going nutz with all sorts of bizarro stuff.

it depends on the site, too. a reality site describing a general plot - for example "watch us pick up real college guys and fuck them raw!" - will probably get more members looking for the plot set up.

I can definitely see that working on a "reality site" as you said. It's really part of the sex (for me), as in hot dom/sub scene, but there's a fine line there between erotic and terribly overacted roles.

Plots are often corny, really detract and waste my time. It's like some silly "excuse" to justify sex. Unless there's something that keeps my attention (maybe a guy's voice is sexy or whatever) in those intros, I usually FF to get to romance/sex. And if the dopey plot pops up in the middle of sex, well, I especially hate that.

For me, the sex IS the plot in adult videos. The best videos are ones where you can tell (or so it appears) that the models are definitely getting into each other...and a story unfolds that shows their own unique way of getting from start to finish - a beginning, middle and end, just like "real" stories. There's a completeness that is satisfying. THAT is the story, for me.

It'd be interesting to see an adult video that also happens to be a good movie (with a story/plot beyond sex). I'm not sure how that could be done, but it'd be revolutionary if it worked well.

If you are creating a big blockbuster porn movie, you need a plot in order to have something to talk about in press releases and interviews. PROMOTION is what sells a movie and the more interesting angles you have to say in a press release, the more attention you'll receive from reviewers, bloggers and awards shows.
