Do You Think The 'Customer' Angle Of Porn Is Often Over Looked?

Especially when it comes to surfers buying memberships and products due to the fact that for the most part, we dont really talk about 'surfers' or 'members' as actual customers?

For instance, in the real world, anyone who enters a bricks and mortar store is considered a potential customer whereas in the online porn business, they are typically thought of as 'traffic' or 'hits' going to our sites, likewise once they have purchased a membership, they are considered 'members' not customers and if they rebill once inside a paysites members area they are a 'recurring member' not a 'repeat customer'.

Do you think the fact that we dont really use the word 'customer' has an effect on how the vast majority of adult webmasters view surfers hitting our websites?

    Regards,

A very interesting question. I think the term "membership" is pivotal here. Do gyms and health clubs treat potential members differently than sport equipment stores treat their customers?

I do think treating them as "merely traffic" is a mistake. Just because a webmaster got them to click the "see the whole episode" button, doesn't mean you can have a slapdash tour and a non-user-friendly sign up process. They can still close the browser window and go out to a bar and drop thirty bucks on drinks and hope for a hook up.

As far as retention, I think its paramount that a paysite busts its ass (pardon the pun, folks) to keep the member/customer happy and, er, satisfied.
