Right now we run a backup of our PCs once a month, the servers are backed up every 24 hours by the hosting company.

I run a backup daily!!
We back up everything weekly. Stagger out the PCs and the Servers so we can never lose more than a max of 3 days data.
Does the trick.

my host does it once a day, personally i dont have anything on my comp that needs backups
I learned my lesson when my desktop imploded my junior year of college...right before all my term papers and portfolios were due...I didn't sleep for nearly a week while I totally redid everything. I passed all my classes, but I got a mild case of selenium poisoning from all the energy drinks I was drinking (started turning green, believe it or not). Now I back up everything. I even keep some stuff backed up on the PC at my mother's house (tax stuff and the like).
We back up everything to DVD+R DL once weekly. And we back everything up on an external hard drive daily.
Hosting - National Net has everything backed up for us also.
I suggest backing up your data daily because you never know what could happen. Hard drives can fail or crash without warning. We had that happen about a year ago, to this date we are still backing everything up from then. We back up literally everything from a word document to a image, all the way up to website scripts and videos. One motto we live by is, "You never know what could happen tomorrow." :worm:
I work with RAID 1, so not need backup ;-)
Some great reasons to backup a raid-1 protected system:
-- Virus gets in and trashes files (the damage will immediately be written to both drives)
-- You aren't paying attention and accidentally delete a file or directory that's really crucial
-- An electrical or electronic problem occurs, or your disk controller craps out, and writes trash to your drives, your filesystem, or your directory structure, rendering your drives unreadable
-- your computer gets physically damaged (fire, flood, etc), stolen, seized by police, craps out and needs to be repaired or something else.
I think the general rule is, back up as often as you're willing to lose your data, and/or as often as your data changes. If you're willing to lose a day's worth of work/changes, backup daily. If it's a week, backup weekly.
We maintain RAID-5 arrays AND back them up. And I'm glad, because we actually had a two-drive failure in a RAID array recently, which is supposed to be nearly impossible. The first drive failed, I replaced it, and as the RAID was rebuilding the array onto the new drive, another drive in the array failed. The array was backed up, so we aren't out of luck.
we back up weekly pc's and server
