"Adapt or die" he got that right as it's the online porn industries mantra.

Unfortunately part of our problem is "adapt or die" because most take it as follow the new trend, create a hundred sites implementing it, and spam the hell out of it.

Definitely everything has to adapt or perish - porno, businesses in general, people as they age, the earth itself. So that's not new. The challenge is because things are changing exponentially faster and faster, I think mostly (but not entirely) due to the fast rate of technological advances. It creates a different living environment, makes our lives look very different, even though our needs are the same. I'm not sure how many people are aware of what is already being designed for transportation - which will transform lives a lot in itself. Our computers in the near future may not operate or even physically look like what we are using now. What if the screen isn't flat anymore, and everything is in 3D? All we can do is just keep our eyes and ears open and just try to keep up without getting too frustrated. :french:

i think it is interesting and agree that we need to adapt not just in porn but in any biz my dad owns a car lot and he has had to change a lot of things in the past couple of years to stay in business i think on the internet things need to be adapted to a lot more though

    Very true!

There is a seismic shift going on right now in society and business, people/companies that do not adapt fairly quickly will not thrive.

The angle in that peice that i found interesting, was how the adult industry has pretty much become a 'follower' of the latest trends, whereas 8+ years ago, the adult industry were leaders.

It seems somewhere between 2000 and the present day, the adult industry rested on its laurels and stopped innovating but instead opted to copy, follow and react to the latest innovations rather than creating them.

    Regards,

So does anybody think that depressed profits and memberships is why business owners cannot afford to innovate as much? The money is now spread over a bunch of small businesses and there are few industry heavyweights left. Those that do exist, like AEBN, still innovate.

I agree. i think in the early 2000's it was so easy to make money in porn that we got lazy and didn't think ahead and innovate and create...all the while, the rest of the online world did. Another key component, in my opinion, is that the online adult industry is generally missing professionally trained experienced business people (myself included ), which the mainstream industry is full of. This is not to say that we still can't come up with very innovative ideas, but we just have to work a lot harder at implementing them now $0.02

You know, i actually think that is a GOOD thing to some extent, although we run our company like a fortune 500 would in terms of monetization, decision making etc, there is still a lot of leeway for new projects to be developed and, whilst we look at bottom line figures to judge how well or how badly a site or concept did for us, a lot of the stuff we have online right now would probably never have taken off if we ran 'business' risk analysis on them.

A lot of what all of us do in the adult industry i think is driven by insight, feelings, emotions, desires and 'gut', moreso than in the 'real' corporate world.

I know i have launched projects that my gut instinct knew would be successful, just as i know we have launched some projects that my gut said would be successful that failed.... Without that type of instinct, a lot of the sites we see on the web today probably wouldnt be around so im not 100% certain that not have certified, trained biz people is a bad thing but at the same time, im not 100% sure its a good thing either.

    Regards,

    Lee

That gut instinct is the creative instinct. Believe me, I could write a book about this but will spare you and me, but creativity and business/money have a precarious relationship. It can work really well and as often be completely incompatible. The point is you have to some degree love what you do (do what you love).
