Whenever you have a new site or product to promote, do you still send press releases out to resource sites and 'news' sites or, do you typically skip using these types of service and opt to post on message boards and announcements forums instead?
I remember when to get a new site up and running, sending out press releases was a must, hitting all of the major traffic outlets, Xbiz, Ynot Masters, Porn Resource, Weboverdrive, All Of Em, Cozy Frog, etc, etc..
Yet these days, it seems that actual 'press releases' are taking the form of board posts more than sending the releases to traditional resource/news outlets who, to some extent today, end up butchering the press releases they get sent.
Do you think this is indicative of the popularity of message boards by webmasters to get their latest news out there in 'real-time' or do you think it is because many of the resource services that offered PR sections simply became to picky about the stuff they would post or, if they did post news sent to them, that peice would get butchered to hell?
