PPS Vs. Revshare - Something That I Have Never Understood

When affiliates say that they have made more money promoting PPS sponsors than they have revshare based sponsors, for the last 3 years, ive pretty much exclusively pushed revshare programs and i know several other people that i speak with regularly that do the same.

If someone is making MORE money with a program that pays a 1 time flat fee, than revshare, surely that is the affiliates problem because they arent promoting the right revshare programs or sites?

I just dont see how anyone, at all, can make more money promoting purely PPS sponsor programs than they can promoting a couple of good revshare programs, i mean the math just doesnt add up to me.. Over time, anyone promoting revshare is GOING to make more money, thats an undisputable fact, because with revshare payments, you get sent money month, after month, after month, after month.

Of course, if the affiliate isnt switching up the revshare programs that are not making them decent money, that isnt any programs fault, it is theirs.

Your thoughts, would you agree that if you have 100 sales to a PPS program and 100 sales to a revshare program, you ARE going to make more from the revshare sponsor than you would on the PPS program?

    Regards,

    Lee

well since i started i have been using pay per sign and revshare paysites and i think you are right to a point but lately i am seeing that i have been starting to make more for each sales with partnership programs over per sign up one and it is making me think about maybe adding more partnership ones to my websites but it is good getting per sign up sales with more money quicker than $15 or $20 on revshare but yeah i am definitly seeing that i have been making more with revshare in the past few months because of returning rebills sales

Often PPS takes into consideration the cross-sells the program does and looks at the total profit from a customer, not just the profit from purchases on one site.

Getting your money up front is safer and more dependable if the site stops being updated or the sponsor has problems, or if the economy tanks and people cancel their memberships to save money, etc.

That said, nearly all my revenue comes from rev share.

From this point i agree with you absolutely.
Though if not to switch the sponsors and just to work with those i already have, yes, i have several ones that i have more money using their PPS program over revshare.
But yes, from the beginning i always prefer revshare.

I always had the sense that webmasters who were professional and in this business for the longterm were Revshare users.

All of my top affiliates in any program I've worked on were Revshare, not PPS.

I think that Revshare is a more strategic partnership, and anything that I do as a webmaster I do as a Revshare webmaster if possible.

Also, having worked for a large PPS program, I know from experience that these are loss leaders. Many programs are rethinking and revamping their PPS programs, especially those with trials.

I usually only promote PPS sites that don't convert great. If they're not selling well, they won't retain either. So in that case, it's better to grab what you can when you can.

But largely, I prefer to promote revshare. However, revshare is also getting tough. With so many sites out there members don't often stick around for long. Join a site, download everything they have in a month, and move on ... that seems to be the mentality these days.

Still I'm not selling anywhere near the PPS memberships as revshare and those rebills are lovely when they get popping up. I've got some that are five years old.

As a responsible affiliate I think everyone should take into considertion the fact that PPS which is mainly based on cross sells will eventually destroy market and make the customers lose their faith in our industry. You might be making some extra bucks with PPS right here and now.....but nothing beats clean revshare programs who care about the customers and maintain an overall industry health.

Just imagine all those poor people smashing their keyboard because they signed up to a 1$ trial website and got charged 120$ 2 days after!

And that's the problem. Most people don't imagine, or even care. They just want their money, and a lot of wm's will do or say whatever necessary to get their $30.

Anyone notice how Out Personals has changed from PPS to PPO (Pay Per Order) so they're no longer paying for all those free sign-ups, just the ones who buy a membership.

Change is coming to adult, too, whether we like it or not.

Generally for me, if a sponsor has PPS for trial memberships, I'll go PPS. If not, Rev Share pays more in the long run.

I guess I have to be the voice of the immoral.

I prefer pps - and my numbers over the last ten years are pretty clear - I make more money per signup, taking all the other factors in consideration.

I don't get paid in revshare when the revshare owner gets an upsell, do I?

I have no control over what happens inside the revshare site, do I?

There are a few programs where I am willing to do revshare, because I like the program and the site and teh way I'm treated as an affiliate, but only a few.

Does the surfer care about me? Not one tiny bit. I prefer not to rip off the surfer, but purely out of self-interest, not because I think the surfer and I have some kind of shared interest or implicit contract.

Does the revshare owner care about me? Not to any extent that I am not instantly replaceable.

Give me my money upfront, thank you very much.

I remember when globill and ibill folded.
