Can you guys help clarify just what you expect to see and do (this includes web site features, like IM, email, webcam, livechat room) for gay dating, gay escort and gay hookup type sites? And maybe some clue as to how each one is different from the other type?

dating - mostly boards with ad's looking for a relationship.
hookup - "realtime" chat/cam , looking for sex now!
escort - mostly boards with ad's soliciting sex for a price.
the above vary and/or contain elements of the other , I actually use all 3
dating - continous ad running of what I'm looking for.
hookup - something to do at home.
escort - something to do when traveling.
So the hookup site would do better with a live chat room feature, and not just a listing of what you're looking for with some pics? Would something like a classifieds site (let's think craigslist for a minute) work at all for a hookup site?
men4men - craigslist is a "hook up" but instead of "realtime chat" like say "adam4adam" you have to rely on Email v.s IM so the response time is "delayed". ( interpreted: if I were to promote any kind of dating/hookup/escort site I would have to "verify" they work , craigslist unfortunately is very flakey and at times dangerous , it's okay if you want to sell an XBOX otherwise I would not want to get the reputation of misleading the public. )

On another aspect to site development-- should one or some or none of these cost the surfer to use the site? If nothing to join ... how does the site make any bling?
usually the site costs if it's good (exp. adultfriendfinder.com , keep in mind this may/may not work for some depending on area you are in , I use it because I think when you pay you get a better class of people and/or the "flake factor" is minimal. ) otherwise you have to count on surfers clicking links on site while their waiting to hookup. ( interpreted: you want the surfer to stay which is why bars without video/cable/etc. do not work. )
in regards to your question on making "bling" a site which costs could have certain "membership" types starting with an atypical "free" which would allow "limited" access to read/look/contact other members of the site to something like a "platinum membership" which would allow you "full access"
( interpreted: ..."you give a mouse a thumb he's gonna'want a full size pic!"... most people will "upgrade" just to see the profiles/pic's/videos of others , it works on the same theory of throwing a bunch of 1/2 naked men in towels into a bathouse and relying on them to "entertain" each other although the bathouses online are cleaner and I'm not running around dark halls in a cold and soaking wet towel from the steam room! :fool: )
