Is Silverlight Actually Important?

From what i can tell, Microsofts new Silverlight is basically flash on steriods and with so many people utilizing flash already, is Silverlight anything worth actually worrying about?

Any of you folks have any input on this, i know Silverlight is going to start being touted as the latest technology for DRM so that digital content can be protected from piracy but, im not all that sure its going to have any significant effect on the industry, especially as there appears to be a HUGE migration away from DRM protected content right now.

Your thoughts, do you think Silverlight is going to be just another flash in the pan or will it actually be something we all start considering in the near future?

From what i understand (and i could very well be wrong on this) its basically Microsofts version of 'flash'.

I saw a gay adult website (Gay Yappo) the other day that offered content in Silverlight format. It's the first one I have noticed so I added a content option to GayGeek for Silverlight. So far I haven't found any other websites that use it but I suppose over time some may.

It requires a lot of effort to go back and redo videos in new resolutions and formats, so I suspect it'll be more popular among starting websites and video on demand sites that are re-doing their entire library.

Thats actually what im in the process of doing right now... Redoing our entire content library, pics, movies, stories, wallpapers, audio files, etc, etc..

Its actually the reason i started the thread, is this something i should be forward-planning for right now or not.
