Is 3072 x 2048 To Large For Pics?

Do you folks think that images which are 3072 x 2048 in dimension are to large to use inside a members area right now?

Ive been going through a bunch of our content and have a heap of pics that are as big as this, some are even larger, and im seriously considering reducing the size of them as i feel they are to large for most members to actually view reasonably well.

Your thoughts, should i reduce the size of thes eimages to around 1020px on the largest side?

lots of sites that offer 2 sizes of pics offer pics about that big as the larger size. while the size isn't for everyone, some guys like to see things full sized.
