News Article: China stops shock therapy for Internet addicts. China's Health Ministry has ordered a hospital to stop using electric shock therapy to cure youths of Internet addiction, saying there was no scientific evidence it worked. Linyi Mental Health Hospital in eastern Shandong province used the treatment as part of a four-month program that has so far treated nearly 3,000 youths, the China Youth Daily newspaper has reported, citing the psychiatrist who runs it, Yang Yongxin.

The ministry said in a statement posted on its Web site late Monday there is no domestic or international clinical evidence that electric shock therapy helps cure Internet addiction. Electric shock therapy is most often used to treat severe depression. Chinese psychologists say symptoms of Internet addiction include being online more than six hours a day — playing games and looking at pornography rather than working or studying — and getting angry when unable to get online.(7/14)

Tighter curbs urged over internet porn. There is overwhelming public support for tighter monitoring of the internet, lawmakers reviewing the control of obscene articles have been told. A Hong Kong University public opinion poll found three-quarters of 1,500 respondents want the government to step up internet regulation by increasing penalties and improving the existing regulatory system. The poll was conducted for a consultants' report commissioned by the government on the Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles Ordinance.

Now I have a problem with this ... I can't help but think that most of Hong Kong's population doesn't want to be noted as going against anything the government wants or supports.

they need there outlet to, and if hacking is one of them, so be it, and you are right let them watch porn. but its wide open in HK where there are a lot of westerners

Hahha I guess I'm an addict! I am online for longer then most people I know for one day. Half the people that live near me don't even have internet connections ....now that is rural

It is just so different the atmosphere here:

Latest drama....
neighbors friend died from a drug overdose...
they had no idea he was using...
friends narcing dealer out
so now we might have ugly people roaming my small neighborhood looking for who ratted them out...

lady down the street is mad because I give the lady next to me rides to the store and she is jealous because she visits me more then her...

do you think living on long island is any driffrent then you? we have all the same kinds of problems as small town usa. the only driffrence is no one has guns or at lest i hope not

hahah so true! we have guns in fact this summer a kid rode up to another kid on a bike and shot him in the face with a bbgun. The bb is perm embeded in his eye socket
