Domain Names - Why Do You Register Them?

So i went on a mini-domain buying spree last night, picked up a couple of names ill be using for upcoming paysites, a few just to park to evaluate their traffic and some for investment purposes.

That got me wondering, when you folks register a new domain name or multiple domain names, what is your primary purpose for doing so, are you just registering a name because you need something to put a site (or galleries, etc) on or do you register domain names for other purposes?

Not all of the above but more than 1 for sure.
Some domains I bought to use now and immediately put sites on them. Some I have to use later if I ever find the time. And some I bought just so other people couldn't have them. Usually because it sounds close to a domain I intend to use.

I'm too poor and lazy to buy domains "just because".

Even at this very early stage in the game for me, I buy for all the above but rarely for resale. Lack of money stopped me from buying more. I'm really sort of a domainaholic if I don't watch out.

I buy domains based on all of the above, but I tend to look for domains that I think have the potential to be resold for more than reg fee (without having to develop them).

I very much wish I could do that but I think I'm not good at selling domain names. Maybe someday.

I usually buy with the idea that I'm going to use the domain at some point, but in my case ideas do not always materialize so easily as one would like to think.

In addition there is always the idea that someone might come around with a million dollar offer for one of them sometime.....I know....I know.....:crazyeyes:

at the moment the domain names that i own are because i wanted to use them for free sites and gallery sites so that if i lose one i have another domain and all of my hard work is not destroyed but i also want to start buying domain names that i can use for paysites stuff eventually as well
