(Ashland, Kentucky) A Kentucky school district at the center of a legal battle over the creation of a Gay-Straight Alliance is now working on a program to teach diversity.

The anti-discrimination program was part of a settlement reached between lawyers for the students and the Boyd Boyd County School District, but not everyone is happy with the way the program will be taught.

Last year the GSA took the school district to court after Boyd County High School shut down all school clubs in an attempt to prevent the Gay Straight Alliance from meeting on school property.

A federal judge ordered the district to allow the Gay-Straight Alliance to meet, ruling that preventing gay students from forming the club violated their constitutional rights. (story)

The diversity program is being developed by Assistant Superintendent Dawn Tackett. Tackett told a school board meeting this week that working on the program was "a good learning experience," for her.

But, some parents who saw a preview of the program and an accompanying training video say promotes "a homosexual agenda."

The board has ordered Tackett to return to the drawing board and develop a toned down version.
