How Often Do You Clear Out Your Contact On IM?

So for the last 15 minutes ive been going through about 400 or so contacts i have on my IM client clearing out the names of people i no longer chat with on a regular basis, or those that have left the industry and moved on to something else... Of around 400 contacts at the beginning, im now down to around 275, and that doesnt include the contacts i have on my AIM which ill probably be clearing out later today or tomorrow.

So how often do you folks clean through your contact list and, does it surprise you to see how many people you actually lose touch with or have left the industry when you do it?

We use Pidgin. It lets you know if you've communicated with someone even with one letter of text within the past 30 days. You can select to delete the contact or continue to keep the contact.
So, about every 30 days.

I got rid of all my various IM apps a few years back - I found they were too major a distraction for getting work done. I'd no sooner fire up my photo editor and someone would be pestering me with nonsense and such.

These days I rely solely on email contact.

But I can certainly see why people would want to at least slim down their number of IM contacts.
