So Why Is It Wrong To Steal Content

To use on free sites and paysites tours or in their members areas or protected areas but its perfectly okay for blogs to 'lift' content off the web from places like Calvin Klein ads and fragrance/underwear commercials?

Surely theft is theft, isnt it?

I dont get the double standards most people in adult have sometimes.

    Regards,

    Lee

hey, a medium sized straight program who is vocal about not stealing content used a major rock band's song on their banner. funny how people don't tend to think outside the industry when they are against copyright theft.

it's not okay without the site owner's permission to take content from a paysite, and i know many webmasters who were strongly asked to take the pics or graphics down that they assumed they were okay to use for promotion.

i do not think anyone working in adult thinks that it is stealing when they use music and pictures from non porn stuff because i think they think they are still in the wild west because they work in online porn

it IS stealing to use CK ads and other content that you don't own...its just that CK does not go after these guys since they are selling a ripoff of their hard good product. What you should be comparing is companies that make CK or prada or other brand name hard goods and selling them illegally on the streets of NY or wherever...those guys do get busted and put in jail for illegal activity.

If you're talking about photo ads for products like CK underwear or a men's cologne, I imagine the companies involved might technically call it theft but wouldn't complain about it...they might even be quite happy about it. They would see it as advertising that they didn't have to pay for, sort of like viral marketing. Remember, the product they sell is NOT the photo ad, it's the underwear or bottle of cologne. If I were CEO of CK, I'd be delighted that bloggers were plastering my photo ads all over the internet.

Porn is very different. When a blogger shows complete photo sets and videos, that IS the product, not an ad for the product. The viewer is getting the entire product for free rather than seeing an ad which may persuade him to buy a physical product like underwear.

I don't know if I'd say "most people" - I don't think the majority in adult have double standards - just a smaller percentage.

But in my books...theft is theft.

That said...personally, I don't mind if someone posts my promotional content (with logo intact) to non-profit forums (Yahoo groups, Usenet, etc.) - as long as they're not making a buck from it.
