Best Video Format when Purchasing Videos!

i'm buying a bulk order of videos from a DVD content provider. i'll need to encode these videos in WMV and Qt in varying dimensions. What format should i get them to send me the videos in? i need an uncompressed format that i can re-encode into WMV and QT using Sorenson Squeeze v4. would VOB work? they can also offer a high quality WMV (2mbps).

    thanks

I usually only buy full DVDs so encode from those so not really sure about how well other media formats encode, sorry bud

VOBs are good...this gives you the exact copy of a DVD (quality and all), which is probably the best you are gonna get given what you are purchasing. If it was custom content, I would insist on getting the DV tape for even better quality source files.

check your program, odds are good that the first step it does is rip the dvd into VOBs before converting and processing them.

hmmmm...i took a sample VOB file and encoded it to WMV and QT using Sorenson Squeeze V.4, but there's no sounds on the resulting WMV or QT. does anyone know why that would happen?

that happened to me before. try video cleaner but if that doesn't help, why not just have them send you the DVDs? that's the best way to go.

i'm having them upload the full-sized VOBs...which is going to total around 90GB!! eeeee

i don't think they can send me the dvds beacuse i only purchased one, maybe two scenes from each dvd

ps. thanks lee! that program seems to have fixed the sound issue
