Do You Use 'About Me' Or 'About Us' Pages?

On your blogs of in your members areas or paysite tours?

It would seem like such pages might be a good way to inject some additional personality in to a site, i have one on http://www.adamsreviews.com which i took about 5 minutes to write to try and get the surfers feeling like the 'guy' who owns the site is a 'real' person.

Do any of you folks use these types of pages on your sites, blogs, etc?

    Regards,

    Lee

I have on some sites and I think you're right.

Seancody goes into quite intimate detail on his "About" page. I think it's a good thing.

Nope. I don't have such pages. I just put the "contact info" page on my blogs. It seems enough for me.

Tending not to use them presently. For me it depends on which site. Some niches tend to explain themselves very well as is, and an about page looks extraneous. Especially with more unique or unusual niches, I feel a need to explain a little more in the "About" page, to inform and get readers excited about the topic and site.

I'm not ready to take on very personal thing in an "About" page because my focus is more on what the site has to offer others personally.

An "About" page also gives me another place to provide text links to sponsors. I try to do them carefully here so they're relative/useful/interesting rather than blatant, forceful pitches. Same with any banners if they work at all here.

We used to have an About page - and a separate page for News text to accompany the monthly updates.

But we eliminated both during the last overhaul. It just seemed to be a waste of time - we never received feedback on the update text anyway. And it often sounded like a blatant pitch rather than a 'peek-behind-the-curtain' personal touch.

I may re-add the About page soon, though. I've been taking behind-the-scenes pics of the production (and prop building in the workshop) - that may be of interest to visitors and members. People might find it cool to see construction shots - and then see the props in actual use in the updates.

Well my feelings on 'about' pages are that to some extent, they can offer the surfer a feeling of transparency, letting them know there actually is a 'real' person behind a site, at the same time, they can also be good for sites that require some kind of personality on them to excite the surfer a little more than just the tour or main sites content would.

With niches specifically id imagine that if you could create an 'about' page telling the surfer how much you love a specific niche, they would be more inclined to join a site that you reccomend, i think these types of pages would work a lot better on regular updated blogs that dont utilize RSS feeds specifically or hub sites/directories.
