I Wonder? Does Anyone Know Anything About Garage Doors?

I just woke up from a nap after spending most of this afternoon trying to fix our garage door, it appears that the railing on the right hand side (as we look out of the garage on to the street) has somehow become warped and because of this, the electric door opener isnt working and we have to open the door manually.

Do any of you folks happen to have any experience with either fixing or having a garage door/railing system replaced?

Im pretty good with most DIY things but this is definitely out of my comfort level as i do not like the idea of having to deal with tightly wound torsion/tension springs because i actually want to keep all four of my limbs LOL

    Regards,

    Lee

I'd hire a professional, (this does not include Sears!) ... those doors are heavy, and have parts that if disassembled wrong, can indeed remove a limb and/or puncture an eye.

    Check this board for confirmation!

Do not try to repair it yourself!

When I worked at a law firm I recall reading depositions describing in vivid detail how a garage door diy'er attempted to remove a bolt that was under such pressure it went flying directly into his eye.

Homedepot and Lowes often have sales on garage doors and use licensed professionals for installation. Homedepot did my door wich included the door, the rails, a new opener, and the safety stuff required by the city I live in for a little over $700.

    I almost forgot...
    as others have said
don't try it yourself unless you really know what you are doing. There are too many chances for stuff to go wrong and get seriously injured.
