    Affiliate PPC

I came across a thread on another board where program owners were calling affiliates who run PPC campaigns "thieves".

Now, I can't say that I really agree with this statement have run an affiliate program that openly sought after affiliates who were working with PPC.

I was also approached to create an affiliated PPC program for another company yesterday.

I'm interested in getting a wider perspective from both the affiliates and the program owners on this issue.

I know LatinBoyz.com pays affiliates 1c perclick+10$ per signup. I have never seen that before to be honest.

I think the problem with most programs who do bitch about affiliates buying PPC traffic from places like Yahoo and Google is that they seem to think they are somehow losing out on that traffic.

The way i look at it, and i have purchased PPC traffic for a lot of programs over the years using their site names as keywords is that PPC campaigns are fair game if the program doesnt specifically say affiliates can not use their site names in such ads, the one i recall off the top of my head that strictly forbids this is Naked Male News.

I also think a LOT of the bitching has to do with the fact that the program itself didnt think of doing this before the affiliate did, which in turn makes them realize they could be paying $5 for traffic and making $30+ per join, instead of having to pay an affiliate $15 for that same join, its greed, pure and simple.

Whether an affiliates uses PPC or a TGP gallery to send a sale, it has still been sent genuinely and the program should be lucky that their affiliate has sent them a sale, it isnt exactly like there arent thousands of options for affiliates to send traffic to these days, if one program bitches about PPC traffic, send it to a program that doesnt mind.

The other thing that many program owners forget, especially with Google, is that those PPC results show up on sites other than just the search engine, we've actually noticed sales to some of our mainstream products from sites that we would have never been able to get on to thanks to an affiliate using a PPC campaign at one of the major engines, that is traffic and branding that we did not have to spend money on.

    Regards,

    Lee

Way back when, paying on a per click scale used to be THE method of making money from porn, i remember the days when a weekly PPC payout from one particular sponsor that is still around would make me close to $2k, until click fraud became to rampant because of hitbbots.

We're actually gearing up to launch a gay pay per click program next year, everything is pretty much in place we're just waiting on the last peice of the fraud control puzzle to get sorted out before we launch paying out $0.05 per click to any of the niche specific sites we'll have in the program.

    Regards,

    Lee

PPC invites crap traffic, such as chinese geotargeted or CJ or even bad TGP traffic. This type of traffic just doesn't covert, or converts extremely poorly. Webmasters know this so they try to monopolize it by sending it to PPC programs, even at 1/10 cent per click, sending 50000 chinese clicks to it will get you $50 but there is pretty much no way for the website owner to convert that traffic into a sale.

PPC is also subject to a lot of botnet traffic, this is fake clicks that come from automated infected computers around the world. Its hard to detect as its not specific to a location or IP address or country.

    LOL! Yes, Dean is right.

I was not in this industry when sites paid per click for affiliate traffic.

Really, I mean Google Adwords - running PPC campaigns via adwords.

    wow!
    thieves? really?
damn, talk about out of touch and falling behind

they better don't know a lot of mainstream companies not only encourage their affiliates to use PPC but also run their own in house PPC strategies!

These people either don't understand PPC or I dont know

When I run PPC campaigns I pretty much put my ass on the line, and money, until the site I'm promoting is making sales. So the product is getting a lot of free exposure I pay for...

    ugh clueless people...

I think what Mary is talking about is when people complain that their site name is being bid on by affiliates.

IMO I wouldn't call them thieves, but I don't know that I would like it. I see both sides. Some affiliates that bid on site names as terms could just be not aware that their sponsor may not like it. However, some sponsors may not do PPC and not care either way.
