Oprah Discusses Porn for Women Today

Today the Oprah Winfrey Show will be devoting an hour to the subject of erotica for women. The show will feature Violet Blue, author of the Smart Girl's Guide to Porn, along with Jenna Jameson and it is, according to Violet, very complimentary towards porn for women. I don't believe that study that said 1/3 of porn is watched by women. (It's kids stealing mom's credit card, more likely.)

Does anyone have a source for that study?

The 1 in 3 figure most likely comes from several Nielsen Netratings surveys, I think the earliest one was done in 2003, there's been another one in 2007 - although I'm guessing on that last date.

I'm hoping that 1 in 3 of Oprah's audience becomes interested in porn, although judging by the forums there's plenty of religious types who are outraged that Oprah did this show.

I have no way of gathering those kinds of stats since I'm referring sales to others, but past conversations along these lines were stating that 30% of gay site memberships were by women.

Wow, that is interesting, and a BIG chunk even if a minority, almost one three!

I am writing my blogs for gay men, knowing there may be women who may visit. I guess I just keep doing the same thing...

From a larger perspective, if accurate, these statistics show positive changes in social systems...more equality and sexual freedom, though still we have far to go.

I've got no stats on how many women like gay porn, it's not really my area, although I've heard plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest that lots of women love it. This is kind of amusing to me - in the early days we spent a lot of time trying to disassociate ourselves from the gay market because everybody was confusing the issue and wouldn't accept that women were surfing porn at all.

There's a new magazine coming out called Syzygy which features gay male content made specifically for straight women. The opposide of girl-girl.
