WTF? This Is Actually Quite Sad.. And Disturbing At The Same Time

As if being held captive in the backyard of a convicted rapist for nearly 20 years wasn't enough for people to process, the story of Jaycee Dugard could soon be told on the big screen by an adult filmmaker.

The actor and movie maker behind films such as "It's My Turn Bitch!," "Warning!! ********* Released: A Love Story" and the series "Amateur Porn Star Killer," wants to add another to his list of disturbing titles: "Abducted: An American Sex Slave - The Jaycee Dugard Story."

Shane Ryan heads Alter Ego Cinemas and told Sacramento TV station CBS13 that he wants to tell Jaycee's story because it's sad and interesting.

"We're trying to figure out a way to do it so that it's not exploitative," Ryan to the station by phone.

Not exploitative? Just how is a man who makes low-budget, underground racy adult films going to take on the story about a girl who was kidnapped at age 11 and held for 18 years by a convicted rapist and forced to bear his children and not make it exploitative? The mere fact that Ryan jumped on the case and started looking for a way market the story is exploitative in itself.

The station talked to a child psychologist who points out the obvious.

"This is a woman who has been through so much," Dr. Debra Moore said. "It's being framed as sexual; its being framed as titillating and it misses the entire point."

Ryan hopes to have his film out by spring 2010.

See full coverage of the case on our special page.

Update: Dugard family spokesperson Nancy Seltzer tells The Associated Press that the plan to make a movie about Dugard's life is "exploitative, hurtful and breathtakingly unkind."

While I tend to agree, what does it say about a society willing to spend MONEY to watch such material? Let's face it; if there wasn't a market. it wouldn't get made.

And, on a more delicate point, let's not forget, years ago, they said the same thing about gay material.

This is kinda sick, but sensationalism sells, the only difference is it's porn.

Oprah and the news media people use it to gain viewers, but because they are mainstream nobody notices the exploitation.

It's still sick, and sometimes a line needs to be drawn.

And who's gonna "draw that line?"

Be careful now, once you give the guy the pencil, he can draw all kinds of lines.

How about, we just don't buy it?
Let our dollars do the voting. The more you actively oppose it, the more attention you draw to it.
Did he break a law creating it? Arrest him for it. Didn't break a law? different problem.

When "Oprah did it," she went a looonnnggg way to making porn acceptable to middle America.
If Oprah says it's OK (even tacitly,) then middle America loses it's outrage.
We all get a little heat off our backs.

It says that people are curious and usually once they watch something sick and demented they don't want to watch again (i.e. real life murder, real life beheadings, etc. )

Let's not forget that around the world there are millions of convicted/not convicted rapists, child molesters, murderers, etc. Get just some of them to pay to watch a movie and you've made a few million bucks!

Not a good business strategy in my opinion. Catering the lowest denominator tends to muddy things up.:turddance:

Yea, except this isn't something new....
Back in the 80's and 90's, when I was in the video store biz, with 4 stores in Central PA (Yes, the PA where the Amish are) people went for the same sort of things.

The most popular adult video rental series was "Taboo American Style" volumes 1-4, which is best described as a quality porn series with a Dynasty flavor about incest.

The most popular horror video was "Faces of Death" which morphed into a long series after the popularity of the first one. This series dealt with snuff films, and claimed to show actual grisly murders, maiming, etc around the world . For it's time, quite shocking. Now, that stuff is on the history channel, and Nat Geo.

So while they SAY they don't want to see it again, they're lying. And the dollars prove it. Nothing the public at large does surprises me anymore.

Again, I would point out. In the 80's and 90's in conservative america, I didn't have allot of Male Gay films in the store. The public would not have liked that, and made it clear to us. They did however, have no problem with lesbian videos.

Now a days, there wouldn't be the same outcry about male gay. Primarily because of the advances made in that area in "normalizing" gay culture.

Yeah when my friends and I were kids we rented the faces of death flicks , turning our heads and closing our eyes at what we thought were the worst parts. Did we go and re-rent them over and over again like star wars or lord of the rings, no.

Pushing the envelope sells, it's the forbidden fruit I get it.

Freedom of expression does have a price. Push the boundaries to far and bad things happen.

Well, I hate to beat a dead horse, but you sound like a fortune cookie.

Freedom of expression is either "free," or it's not. If not, then it's "controlled speech," of some varying degree. I think you have to err on the side of keeping the speech free, and have a damn good reason to restrict it, that should be challenged, and challenged. It should be adversarial to limit the speech, not to express the speech.

Then we would get a more accurate representation of what people were willing to tolerate, or pay for.

When I said a line needs to be drawn, I didn't mean any kind of censorship, and I guess I should have used diff words to explain what I meant.

People should have the self respect to draw their own lines, and not make profit from what sounds like ****... Anything to do with underage victims and adult content should be kept far far apart. (my own opinion)

It just gives the haters ammo to use in their arguments against the adult industry as a whole.

I support free speach and the first amendment 100 percent, but just because I can jump off a bridge, doesn't mean I should do it.

Now that I can get behind.
