Do You Find That Peoples Tolerance Towards Newbies..

Has gotten shorter and shorter over the past year or two?

For example, on GFY, it seems like newbies are always pretty much bullied in to submission when they actually have serious business questions and arent just there to stir up the crap.

Likewise, im noticing that a lot of other boards at the moment really dont seem to be tolerant of newer webmasters and the questions, posting that they do.

Is this something that is showing of the atmosphere of the boards in general or do you think it has to do with the fact that people arent making as much money as they used to and they are just taking their frustration out on those who may not know any better?

    Your thoughts?

    Regards,

    Lee

Obviously I have no perspective to compare and answer Lee's question, being new to the biz this year. But I do have experience in other areas of life and business.

Ryan is totally right and to the point. Few people, or peoples/cultures/countries, know how to handle the responsibilities of having more power than others. Some are better at it but most aren't, obviously because of insecurities - personal, economic, social, etc..

With the conversion ratio down so much, it's not as simple as learning how to make free sites, AVS sites and TGP galleries these days. It's easy to answer the technical how-to questions, but newbies ask over and over again "what makes good money?", which has no easy answer.

I've received very useful information from some people on the forums and continue to ask questions that I'm not sure of. Most people are friendly enough to answer. Either publicly or by IM.

But, as Fister said, it's crazy to join a board of professional webmasters that worked hard to earn money in a slow economy and simply ask "how can I make lots of money".

There have been a few jerks that I've encountered here and there but they are the few and are easy enough to ignore.

Yes, that is another thing I wanted to add to my post but it was over the couple of minutes limit of editing. Originally I hesitated participating on this and other boards because I thought it was only for experienced webmasters, so I asked someone about this. They told me there are definitely jerks on boards and you have to ignore them, but most people are friendly and glad to hear from new folks. This is what I've found.

With the newbie thing asking how to make a lot money, it depends on what they are really asking. I didn't know people asked things like how to make a lot of money. Asking if it's possible to make a decent income and where to start is obviously an important question for anyone who is practical and serious about entering a new profession. For those practicing webmasters who do rely on this income (and for some who don't), finding ways to make more money is obviously a basic part of the job. How to get rich is another issue, sort of humorous and naive. I suppose you have to approach it considering the perspective it came from.
