Getting my content released on DVD?

    I'm hoping for some advice.
I have a few hours of original content from my site that I would like to put out on DVD. I'm not sure how to proceed.
I've released a mainstream gay documentary on DVD, so I know about putting the content together, manufacturing the disc and finding someone to get it out. (I used Discmakers, Filmbaby.com and a distribution deal with a gay company.)

Can someone advise me the best way to do this with gay ADULT content? Who will put this out for me and get it into stores? I'm happy to do the mastering and manufacturing on my own. I'm just not sure about which vendors are best for this kind of material.

Also, if any of you have had experience, I'd appreciate hearing your stories and getting any tips.

    Thanks so much, guys!

I've sold my DVD's through Chris/Pornteam for a couple years and it's been a good experience. If you haven't found him on here, you can always go to PornTeam.com and find the phone number there.
You could also try AMVC.com. There's a "sell your videos" link on their site that'll tell you how to submit your content, etc.

    A little too late, but

I think you are a little too late entering the DVD business, but I'll give you some advice as a amateur pron producer that has a DVD line also.

First, you need to make sure your sales will cover authoring, printing, replication and distribution.

I can suggest an all in one shop (minus the authoring) that I use. Breene Graphics is pretty good for a one stop shop in the LA area http://www.breenegraphics.com/

Next, Distributors will usually not take you seriously until you hit the "10" mark. Basically, 10 solid DVD releases, and they don't want you to push them out all at once, they want to see them over time. I currently have 12 in my World of Men line and it wasn't until my 10th release did distributors take notice (let alone I released the only gay porn filmed in the Middle East: World of Men; Lebanon).

You also need to price them right for distributors since they are looking for bargains. It will be hard to find a distributor that will buy your new line for $20 a pop.

Last, you will have to dump some money into marketing with a company like JRL which will basically want $600 paid in full and then they will also want to see a bit of a track record so they can help promote you.

Very last, if you are thinking that you will sell 1,500 units, well, like I said in my first point, you are a bit too late for those numbers.

I hope I have been a bit helpful (and realistic)..

There is a difference between the brick-and-mortar DVD stores for customers to walk in to, and on-line portals for customers to order DVDs from, in terms of selling one's line of DVDs. We've been talking about stores and distributors and indie producer's DVDs here for several years.

Even Chi Chi had to open her own store to make sure her catalog got carried in West Hollywood! I visited the store last week, and it is awesome. Then I went across the street to shop at A Different Light Bookstore, but they were gone (after 20 years??), it is now a clothing store.

From what I can tell, PornTeam is the only honest on-line retailer of indie gay DVDs. Although I tried to do business with both PT and AMVC, in 2006 and 2005, resulting in failure to launch with either.

SugarDVD rents DVDs, but they give token interest to m/m.

The replication inventory method Collin describes is quite the expensive dinosaur! DVD-R is the more practical method, eliminating up to 100% of the up-front costs per title, and probably staying about even over time compared to producing 1500 copies and warehousing them.

I've sold my non-sexual nude DVDs on Amazon.com via DVD-R on demand for 5 years. No way could I have produced and marketed 200 different titles in that time period if I had had to Replicate 1500 copies of each, and warehoused them, and did all the costly packing and shipping every couple of months to distributors! And then repeat the cycle on the odd occasion that 1500 would sell. And the cost of calling on distributors and stores themselves to do all the ass kissing that that model requires. And managing credit and accounts receivable...

DVD-R mail order is the most practical way for newbie indie producers to get DVDs in the hands of customers who still want physical DVDs in their libraries.

Do we yet have an honest DVD-R on demand online retailer of indie m/m DVDs?
