Do You Work On National Holidays?

For example, tomorrow, being a national holiday, are many of you folks going to be working or will you be taking a break like most 'normal' businesses will?

I must admit, for us its typically only the main holidays we will take off, ThanksGiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve/Day....

The Internet is 24/7, and no day goes by without some attention to e-mail correspondence, Stats gathering, PHP revisions, database maintenance. Some days are slower than others, such as holidays when large VOD partners are closed or on vacation work schedules. About 1% of my work is based on mail or freight received by USPS, UPS, FedEX, or physical banking, so in that sense, holidays do not affect me.

In light of the current global recession, I am still shocked and dismayed that 2 of my VOD partners' encoding divisions actually slowed down or even closed down for up to 2 weeks during the holidays!

I find this unbelievable, because the retail and service sectors always work hard during the holidays to provide for consumers' needs and demand, and takes their vacation in other times of the year.

You can't make money if you're closed down, and the six week time period from mid-Dec to the end of January traditionally has been the best time of the year for me for several years running. Not this year! I've got one partner where no new content has gone live in 6 weeks, and another pushing 4 weeks.

This is the wrong time of the year to be snoozing. A large portion of consumers are off work during part of this time of the year, and/or have end of year money to spend, and we need to be there for them.

This year, my partners were not! What were they thinking??

hmm .. I just realized since tomorrow is a holiday I should be at the bars tonight and give some lonely guy(s) a chance to pick me up , damn ... and I just washed the sheets this weekend! ( interpreted: when jim is not in the mood that's when everyone else is ... now where did I put those frickin' blue pills! :fool: )

I work bank holidays, national holidays, hell this year I worked half the day of Xmas and New years

I only wish the post office had my work ethics (I have 4 packages sitting at the local post office right now)

It's a good time to do things without much interuption and what else is there to do?

All 7 days a week here regardless of holidays.
