Maximum Colors To Use On A Sites Tour?

I was wondering what you folks thought about this question, when it comes to designing paysites, do you think there is a maximum amount of color that should be used on a sites tour?

For example, on Foreskin Fantasy, i told the designer to use white, purple and green, and i typically give designers a 3 color scheme to use on most of the design work i have done but, do you think there could be more colors used on a paysite tour in order to improve their look or do you feel that a tour that has a simple color scheme works better in terms of conversions?

Your thoughts please, do you think there is a maximum amount of color that should be used on a paysite tour to keep it looking good in the eye of the surfer or do you think surfers even care about the color schemes being used on a site just so long as the content in use turns them on enough to pull out their credit card?

    Regards,

    Lee

Well, I'd say if the site is about selling porn, content is much more important and the colouring should be kept at a minimum. I prefer sites which stick with two or three colours. Anything more is like looking at a candy shop. When I shop for porn I usually get the impression that a site isn't a serious business when there is too many colours. There are very few exceptions, but when colours are dominant I tend to believe that the content isn't good enough to speak for it's own.

However, if you want to sell colours... it's a different story of course.

But that's just me and my two euro cents. $0.02

just because CRAYOLA comes in a box of 12 - 215 doesn't mean you have to use every color! ( interpreted: I would be happy if people made sure their "enter's" are green , "exits" are red , "navigation" are yellow , and stopped copying my black backgrounds ... they only work for me dammit! )

p.s - bright colors are for children and hoars , which one are you? ( oh wait , that kinda'makes sense now for some of you! )

The multicolored splash of hues isn't wrong. It's just an intense, particular personality that has to be used in a suitable place. I find that look frequently confusing and unfocused, sometimes cheap, but that's often because it's just irrelevant to the purpose of the page/niche. For example, if it's a niche about maybe bubbly twinks, a range of colors may? be more appropriate, or two candy colors. If it's goth twinks, that might not work. The point is the color and the intention of the work/tour/webpage have to be tightly aligned.

One way to find good colors, not saying this is foolproof, is to think of color by itself as your only way to communicate the ideas you want. What colors say the name of your site, the niche, and what you're selling, without having to use words or effects? The closer you come to that, the closer the whole design will be cohesive and focused.

One thing that I have noticed after spending a year pretty much this whole past year working out color and web design (with a lot of frustration) is how few colors are needed. Sometimes one color and just another or two for rare small accents often works.
