yes, when available you should use names, members love it and it helps them find other sets by the same models.
Ok, I see the value in using names for the models, but what about set descriptions? Is it worth the time to make 'em up?
I love that you asked. Yes to all. The more info, it really does help and is important.
Names are important. First and last is good, if possible. Writing a post for a solo shoot or that focuses on a guy without any name to call him is difficult and very odd. Similarly, it's hard to write a post when you have two or four guys having sex and no way to identify who you are talking about, and no idea what they do in the video. The description should identify who is who, what's so special about them, and who is doing what. The info also varies depending on what is relevant.
If you have no time to write out sentences, a short list of basic info is better than nothing.
From a consumers point of view I wouldn't bother with anything than a first name. Whenever I see first and last names on a website it usually makes me chuckle, as it's mostly too obvious that they are made up (which some may like of course) and many are downright silly.
When it comes to bios and stories I'm just too realistic to believe anything of it so they don't hold any value for me. Some good stories of the models can be entertaining though. Especially when a model is described as a grade A student and you actually happen to know that the poor guy is nothing more than a lost druggie who just came in to grab a few bucks for his next shot.
From a business point of view I totally agree with Tim460. When you're writing some text for blogs it's very helpful when you get at least some who is who. Just writing about the blond guy who fucks the brown haired lad makes it not only difficult but it also sounds odd. If the site doesn't provide some story text it's much easier to create one if you have names.
I also think it's better for a potential customer who likes a model and wants to see more, if he already has a name to look for. Like: "Hey, now that I've signed up, where is Jim?" instead of "Damned, where do I find that brown haired guy with the big dick?"
As Luke mentioned its good when you have the feature to 'search' inside your members area however, if you dont have that feature, why spend the extra time doing it?
We're talking about porn here, not the next exhibit at the Guggenheim.

Because people use models' names in Search Engines, and if the names are in your posts, or titles, or tags, then it does bring surfers to your site.
(went over my edit time) Strange as it seems, some folks worship and follow particular models, and models names come up in some of the top searches that bring people to my site.
I agree that model's name and a description of the set is good for members area but even better for the tour where some of the terms used in the description can be searched.
oh, I am talking about blogs, affiliate sites, not paysites. I'd have to think about the paysite aspect of things. I'd say it's worth using names anywhere just to get some kind of tag associated with the model. Not everyone cares about the model as much, and I am like that generally. But as a webmaster, I recognize that some people really follow a model they like, including new and unknown.
