Should porn do more to educate about safer sex?

I found the article below from XBiz about Chinese students learning about sex from porn interesting:
    http://www.xbiz.com/news/126987

Should we be doing more to also teach surfers about having 'safer' sex? We do put disclaimers on our bareback websites warning surfers of the dangers of bareback sex, as well as donate every year to different HIV organizations, but is that really enough?

I have a few ideas I think that I am thinking of doing:

    1. Having a model demonstrate how to put a condom on another model, showing that wearing a condom can be sexy too.
    2. Putting more sex ed information in front of our bareback films, giving support phone numbers and hotlines.
    3. Making a 'guide to gay sex' in our member areas where surfers can read and get more information about things like HIV awareness, sexual health and more.

What are your thoughts on this? I also entered a poll to see what feedback I can get.

Yeah I agree I think that it's an adult's right to choose what to do with their own body, whether it be barebacking or anything else, but I feel we in the porn industry should educate surfers so they can at least make an informed decision and know all of the facts. I think making a page with 'sexual help' on our sites is a good idea and I am going to work on that, in addition to the disclaimers we put in the front of some of our bareback videos.

i don't understand it but younger gay people seem to feel there is noting wrong with bb, so no matter how much you try to teach them they aren't going to leisten.

My thing is porn is about fantasy. We often choose to view what we cannot or will not actually do in real life.

Also I don't think AIDS groups give folks enough credit. They assume/act like nobody knows about HIV/AIDS.

People are going to engage in risky behavior regardless, drinking and driving anyone?

This is actually something I had a long talk with one of my friends with who is a (gay) University Teacher in Japan. He told me that he is really alarmed at how the younger gay generation there have absolutely no concept of 'safe sex' because they never grew up with seeing HIV or AIDs there, and there was never really an epidemic in the country like there was in the US or other Asian countries. There is also nothing taught in schools about safer sex, and he tells me some guys think it 'strange' when you actually suggest a condom. At the same time, he said there has recently been a rise in cases of HIV and other STD's in the gay community there. He also thinks most of the kids are learning to have unsafe sex from porn and thinks it could help if there were more disclaimers or information about safer sex on porn websites. However the vast majority of these younger guys are probably looking at tube sites, so it would be good to see some of the bigger tube sites giving more information about sexual health as well since that's probably where they are getting their first exposure to riskier sex.

I think it's the job of the parents and maybe school, not of the porn industry.

Ok, ok, I know I'm just dreaming. reaming:

Yeah in a perfect world that's how it should be. However, in Asian societies, schools and parents never talk to their children about sex, especially not gay sex, it is way too taboo! I think that's why the burden is on us to at least do what we can. I don't think having a few links to sexual health websites or offering a bit of information on safer sex so they can make a responsible decision is all that much work. I think it is good if it helps to educate even just a few people in the gay community, since parents and schools obviously aren't doing it. But maybe I'm dreaming too!:pigs10:

That's a terrific idea, I think. It certainly doesn't hurt to add some links, like some webmaster do have links to NatNanny and the like. I'm going to do some research to find useful links I could use.

Please do share any you find! Below is one of the organizations in Asia I donate to that I am planning to add to my Asian sites:

I couldn't agree more. i think the parents should take more of a role in educating their kids about safe sex and it's not the responsibility of teachers or the porn industry for that matter. Porn is fantasy but the sad truth is, there's a lot of people out there who can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality and do whatever is on their screen. That's where parents come in to make sure their kids as they are growing up, know the difference no matter how uncomfortable they are talking about it. I find it very sad that there's also a lot of ignorant parents out there who think their kids don't watch some type of porn on the internet or elsewhere. I'm a parent and I made sure my kids knew the facts as they were growing up.

it couldn't hurt to have a safer sex link up, and it could help.

a while ago, i got a ticket and opted to go to traffic school. the woman who lead the class also did volunteer work with teenagers, mostly counseling about "real life" relationship and sex issues. she and i talked over lunch about this, and she was almost entirely focused on the issues of pregnancy. when i asked about HIV, she told me that it wasn't an issue at the high school level. i gave her some facts - they were not just my opinion, but real medical facts and i sourced them for her. she told me straight up that she didn't believe it and that i was mistaken or mislead by people who were paranoid or just trying to scare people.

so it couldn't hurt to have the info up. after all, she was a main resource to a number of l.a. school teens about HIV, and her main contention is that it was virtually impossible that those 17 and 18 year olds could get it.

something worth mentioning on the page would be that mineral oil and vaseline can cause condoms to break. it's astounding how many people i've talked to don't know that.
