google's latest: mod pagespeed

So have you seen google's latest release? In their continuing effort to speed up the web, they have released a new Apache mod called mod_pagespeed. It works on Apache 2.2 only, and its supposed to reduce load times by upto 50%, essentially making your site load twice as fast.

From their Page Speed Homepage:
"The mod_pagespeed Apache module automatically rewrites pages and resources to improve their performance. The Page Speed extension runs performance tests based on a set of best practices known to reduce page load time.mod_pagespeed, the Apache module automatically optimizes resources on a web page. "

And since one of google's ranking factors is speed loadtime (not to mention the short attention span of surfers looking for porn), this may be one that deserves a serious look.

mod_pagespeed is well worth a try if you have multiple css files and javascript file since it moves them into one css/javascript file and eliminates unnecessary whitespaces.
Also it removes whitespaces from html files
