Anti-Gay Senate Candidate Accused Of Demanding Public Sex

(Chicago, Illinois) Jack Ryan's campaign for the US Senate from Illinois has been rocked by allegations that the family values anti-gay marriage candidate tried to force a former Star Trek star into public sex.

The Republican candidate is locked in a nasty custody battle with ex-wife Jeri Lynn Ryan. Ryan starred as Seven of Nine in the sci-fi series Star Trek Voyager and most recently was a regular in Boston Public.

In court documents released this week she accuses her former husband of visiting sex clubs and pressuring her to have sex in public. The filings say that when she refused to go to the clubs Jack Ryan became angry and verbally abusive.

Jeri Lynn Ryan charged during a custody hearing that Ryan took her on surprise trips to New Orleans, New York and Paris in 1998, and that he insisted she go to sex clubs with him on each trip.

She said that after going out to dinner with Ryan in New York, he demanded that she go to a club with him.

"It was a bizarre club with cages, whips and other apparatus hanging from the ceiling,'' she said. She said Ryan asked her to perform a sexual act while others watched, and she refused.

She said they left and Ryan apologized to her and said it was out of his system. But then, she said, he took her to Paris and again took her to a sex club.

She said she cried and became physically ill at the club, and her husband got angry with her. She said she could never get over that incident.

The two had vigorously fought to keep the documents sealed, but a judge ordered them opened. The court papers were filed prior to Jack Ryan's win in the March 16 Republican primary. Both Ryans had argued making the the papers public would be harmful to their 9-year-old son, Alex.

Ryan campaigned for the Republican nomination on a pro family anti-gay platform.

"I believe that marriage can only be defined as that union between one man and one woman. I am opposed to same-sex marriages, civil unions, and registries," he says on his website.
"I believe that we are all equal before God and should be before the law. Homosexuals deserve the same constitutional protections, safeguards, and human dignity as every American, but they should not be entitled to special rights based on their sexual behavior."

On the issue of a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, he waffles.

"As a United States Senator, I would support legislation such as Senator Bill Frist’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), provided the language remains clear in the defining of traditional marriage and protecting the traditional family unit."

Prior to winning the GOP nomination Ryan had repeatedly assured GOP leaders the files contain nothing embarrassing. Since the release of the court papers Republican powerbrokers have been deserting him.

U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Peoria, said Ryan needs to quit the campaign for the good of himself, his family and his party, and former Gov. Jim Edgar also distanced himself from supportive comments made earlier in the week.

But, Ryan says he is not about to withdraw.

"My intention is to stay in the race,'' he said.

For those of you paying attention to US Senate races, IL is kind of interesting. Ryan's opponent is Barack Obama (http://www.obamaforillinois.com/), and even before this story came out people were thinking Ryan didn't stand a chance. So for the outcome of that individual race, this doesn't really mean too much.

However, there are GOP fears that Ryan will bring down the rest of the IL GOP ticket. Hmm, that would be nice. *cough*
