While I have had tragedy in my life ... I can't sing, dance or act. Which brings me to a question for you all ...

Why are certain people "gay icons" ? Is it the tragedy aspect combined with enormous talent or ??

I definitely think that a person who has dealt with tragedy and come through it with a sense of humor is most assuredly a Icon. As far as being a gay icon...I think if they truly & sincerely support the gay community, try to be as honest and open as possible about their individual feelings (Cher had a moment when she had a bit of difficulty with the whole Chaz, but she came through) and treat us with dignity & respect...they deserve to be an icon.

Kurt from Glee is an Icon representing the current anti-Bullying message.

As the recent episode of Glee depicted, anti-Gay Bullying is as much (if not more) "from behind us"*, as it is in the face of all of us who are "differently" talented and abled.

In that episode, Kurt's jock Bully nemesis, who is always throwing him against the lockers, snuck a KISS from him.

Internalized homophobia runs rampant. Kurt symbolizes the opposite.
