    What just happened?

    Hello fellow GWWs,

Today I see that sites such as gayvideoondemand.net and daddymuggs.com (oddly NOW daddymugs.com) suddenly have scary warning messages that you must agree to, which were never there before! :yikes:

Does anyone know why these gay websites have just started these ominous warnings?

I apologize for my ignorance, but I've been away from gay webmastering business for quite a while. This seems so typical of my luck, since I had just been preparing to re-launch my gay sword-and-sorcery website, as things seemed to be loosening up. But all at once, it seems like a dangerous venture again! :cryrub:

    Thanks in advance,

    Jaroq

PS: If you prefer to answer privately, please PM me, as my domain e-mail is not reliable (yet another stressor...).

Isn't it just common sense to have an adult content warning?

I think it's only fair to offer a warning as early as possible, both for kids and adults. It's nothing to be scared about.

Thanks, guys. I certainly agree that warnings and blocks to keep kids out is a very good thing. I always used elaborate ones to keep them out of my sites.

It's just that a few gay sites that used to not have any "front door" warnings suddenly have these long, legal-sounding warnings on the same day. :hmm: The coincidental timing of these new warnings at existing sites made me wonder if some new law or new ruling had just been put into effect.

These warnings also contain rather detailed passages about "be sure this material is acceptable and legal in your community" stuff - and my worst-case scenario mind goes "sites are getting sued again".:uhoh:

Thanks for the reassurance that things haven't suddenly taken a turn for the worse out there.

Imagine a homoerotic Lord of the Rings - instead of Aragorn hooking up with Arwen, he gets hot and naked with Boromir, Legolas does Gandalf, and Frodo and Sam really ARE a gay couple :033102kiss_1_prv: (as many of us have suspected anyway). :icon_wink: Picture Conan the Barbarian seduced by handsome young warlocks instead of by pretty red-haired witches. Maybe a few satyrs and minotaurs in the mix.

But I'm not ripping off or doing "slash art" of Tolkien or Robert E. Howard. All my characters, art, and tales are original and X-rated, sorta like Julius (juliustoons.com), Tom of Finland, or Ian Hanks' "Aegean Tales" meets the Theban Band.

I can't edit my writing above, so I must append it. I want to clarify that I did not mean to imply that "slash art" was in the same category as "ripping off"! The Theban Band is exquisite slash art that I really love - it's favourite fantasies beautifully redone just for us gay guys. There is so little fine art and fantasy/scifi that portrays our flavour of sexuality. The Theban Band is like an oasis of gorgeous gay fantasies in a vast wasteland.

My own stuff has sometimes been called "original slash" because it takes a specific genre and makes it involve same-sex relationships.

So slash artists please forgive my careless phrasing above, and keep on recreating those lovely fantasies for us gay folk. Forgive my faux pas - I feel like a horse's patoot.

Wow...Nick, I really appreciate your backing me up in my concern about these lengthy "legal document" warnings suddenly popping up where they've never been before.

Something has got to be going on out there that is prompting all these websites to put up those grim warnings all of a sudden.

Hopefully, somebody in the know can inform us of why this has been happening in just the last few days.

i first reviewed daddy mugs over a 2 years ago, and it was daddymugs with 1 "g" - i checked the screencaps and the review to be sure, and they're from june 2008. perhaps they had daddymuggs.com forwarding to daddymugs.com?

btw, lots of porn sites have had legal warnings like those for over a decade. don't know for sure about those, but it's nothing new. our lawyer had one set up for us in 1996 on our first site.

If there are a few sites that now have identical messages, are you sure they're not just operated by the same company and chose to change?
It could just be that they've changed hosting and the legal statement needed to be changed to comply with their terms.
Or maybe they've just hired a new legal person who wanted to change it?

I certainly haven't seen any mention of legal changes and I'm active on most of the adult webmaster boards.
I'm certain it would have been mentioned on at least a few of them.

A warning page does absolutely nothing to prevent anyone from accessing your content.

In most cases warning pages are pointless and unnecessary. We only have them on our pay sites because it's required by CCBill/Visa Regs.

Seth I agree with you! But when did they become a requirement? is this a USA visa/mc thing only?
