top 10 searched / visited sites in 2010

Experian Hitwise released their figures for the top 10 searched & top 10 visited sites in 2010, not surprising, Facebook topped both lists as the number 1 searched and visited site. One thing I though was interesting is the rise of microsoft properties msn and bing. Goes to show the rising importance of SEO for microsoft search engines.

What strikes me even more is that Yahoo is still in the Top10...

Yes, good point nicholas18! So many webmasters focus solely on seo for google, but looking at these lists you realise how important it is to also develop sites that have seo specific to the other search engines too!

...and Bing is showing his nose on Number 10 this year. Will it last?

No big surprise youtube and facebook are on the up, myspace and yahoo on the way down...although it is still surprising Yahoo is still so popular, thought they would have dipped further. I find it interesting facebook has now taken over Google as the number 1 most visited site. I guess we all need to look at ways to incorporate Facebook into our business strategy even though it's difficult with their harsh stance on porn.

I dont get people searching for facebook. just add .com I guess it comes from about 75% of people having 12 tool bars on the browsers and they just type into any of them to get there. they dont even relaize that they are doing it.

So these numbers are a bit off of reality.

I think that is because people know that if you type facebook into your browser without the .com, it will go to the right site (thanks to google integration with browsers which redirects to the first relevant listed site). That's how it works under firefox, at least.
