Affiliate Banners; Lame

I think flashing piles of money in the background and promising huge amounts of cash in affiliate programs ad banners, zooming dollar signs, etc, is lame and stinks of "We only care about the bottom line." Why don't some people try boasting about their excellent webmaster support, timely payment, and great features instead of giving them a gimmicky get-rich-easily feel?

I think the Major Hardon banner is a great one, and should serve as a good example.

The sexmoney and topbucks ones aren't too bad either. but even besides the many awful banners some of the other places have, naming your affiliate program hugecashsociety or whatever or richpornguys, stuff like that, just seems kind of cheesy to me...

While i'm on a rant, I haven't even seen many decent new affiliate programs in a while. The sell text for most of them might as well be:

"We've put together as many unoriginal sites as possible with mediocre content, to give you the maximum amount of average sites to promote! Check out our longwinded tours full of bullshit and spelling errors, even though you are probably promoting these same photo sets on other sites with other lame back stories! Chances are at least one of our join buttons will be fubar, so be sure to send massive amounts of traffic! If you have a problem with any of our sites, please allow 4 to 8 months for response, thank you and prepare to make huge bucks just by signing up! Feel free to make your own banners, as ours took a whole ten minutes to design!"

I'm not putting down people who honestly try, but it seems like a lot of people don't, at all. Why put in the money and not the effort?

I think most of the banners are aimed at newbie webmasters as everyone who's been around a while knows there no such thing as a get rich quick program

It's true! I ripped him off! It was a lot earlier this year. I was supposed to be designing a site for this guy, who put $100 in my paypal account saying it was to "help me get broadband internet" then decided it was for designs he wanted me to do. So I was busting ass to do them, and they were comming out pretty good too, even though they were for tranny sites (definately NOT my cup of tea, I did not like looking at the content at all ) nothing against transexuals mind you. To make a long story short, my bf broke my keyboard, and as you all know i'm a broke ass, so it took me about a week to replace it. In the meantime, I could still check my email, just couldn't type anything.

So this guy starts sending me threats, telling me "I know you are online! I'm going to send someone over to kill you, I have your address!" and shit like that. Fuck that! I kept his $100 and he's not getting it back! Screw him for threatening me!

Yes, he did rip me off / and he will rip you off too--- Honest people return money not earned. $100 is alot of money to anyone who works hard. I hate thieves and I am sure everyone here does as well andwill agree with me.

As far as threats are concerned, yes I have his address and no I do threaten to kill people for a hundred bucks--- not worth flying over from Switzerland ---

So, DigitalJay--- you want to cleanup your name you can forward me $100 and Lee can delete this thread now---

Rainbo: I haven't tried promoting it yet, but the site and features look awesome. I love how you've kept the affiliate program really simple and NOT looking like a cookie cutter porn site, but the site being promoted has a fantastic design. That is definately how it should be.

I know I said I wouldn't post more about that other subject , but i've never ever been paid for any design work, ever. And i've never taken money for any design work. I signed up for Paypal this year, to get a $100 "loan" toward getting broadband internet so I could create a design, and if you've read this far you'll see that didn't pan out well, and ruined me on trying again until now.
