Okay… so I unsuspecting opened my mailbox today to find not only a campaign letter from the bush campaign but an 8x10 glossy of the prez and laura!!! Someone must have played a cruel joke and put me on their list.
The letter says that they want me to be a charter member of the AZ campaign and that the photo symbolizes my commitment to the President and his upcoming battle. I should frame it and display it proudly.
My girlfriend, Laura, and I decided we’d reply and send them a glossy 8x10 of our family in appreciation:
Dear Marc,
I am returning the photo of the President and Laura Bush you sent in a shameless attempt to acquire funds for the Bush- Cheney re-election effort, as the content is considered offensive in my home.
I am, however, including a photo of my lesbian household in the hopes that you might want to help the Gay and Lesbian community in their efforts to acquire equal rights. You see, we too have been under attack. Not by the Democrats and Liberals, though, but the Republicans. Maybe you are aware of the GOP and Christian Right led campaign to halt the efforts of so many citizens to legalize marriage between gay and lesbian couples? We could really use your help!
This photo is a symbol as well… a symbol of two loving human beings that are being condemned and discriminated against by the very people you are expecting me to make a campaign contribution to.
You have stated that the “liberal special interest groups are raising hundreds of millions of dollars to defeat President Bush. I am assuming the gay and lesbian community is one of the special interest groups of which you are referring. You’ve stated that the opposition has amassed over $200 million to defeat the President, and George Soros has said he “would spend his $7 billion fortune if it would guarantee President Bush would lose in 2004.” Wouldn’t it occur to you that there is a reason that so many hard-working Americans are donating money to anyone other than the President? America wants a change.
To sum things up, remove my name from your mailing list. It must have been sent to you as a joke. I do not want your propaganda infiltrating my home.
Sincerely,
Rainey Stricklin, and I approve this letter.
