    Google latin america: revenue up by 80%

    Bloomberg reported today that Google is opening new offices in Latin America and boosting staffing levels by 50 percent to capitalize on its fastest-growing region.

    "Revenue from Latin America surged 80 percent last year, outpacing every other market," Vice President Dennis Woodside said.

    “What we are seeing is the Internet coming into its own in all the Latin American markets,” said Woodside, who handles sales for the Americas, including the U.S. “There are 650 million people in the region, and a lot of them are really coming online for the first time. Our business in Latin America is just booming.”
    We have had a few threads on GWW previously that mentioned geotargeting your customers and using foreign language promos. Obviously, its **the** growth market right now. So what are you doing to capture this market?

    I started a Spanish porn blog (MachosCalientes.es) this past year. It's a bit of a struggle to get it recognized by Google - Google traffic keeps bouncing around. I've attached a graph of the site's traffic from Google.

    My next move will be to get the site hosted in Spain and see if that's what Google needs to see in order to trust the site...

    One difficulty is geotargeting. It's difficult to geotarget for a language. For a particular country isn't all that difficult, but there aren't really tools to just be Spanish (the language, not the nationality).

    The other problem is that the site is showing content from pay sites that are English sites. I don't know that marketing English porn to Spanish speakers is all that profitable...

    can anyone recommend a sponsor that offers Geo target in the Spanish niche or any market for that matter which is written in the surfers language?

    for instance. if a user hits my blog[s] and if the browser detects the surfer maybe Mexico or another country I would like that surfer to see that banner/text with the Spanish text and go to a toy store, pay site that's written in Spanish and not English.

    i think sex money does this , i would like to broaden my options.

    thanks...

    My Gay Cash is doing it on some of their sites, but it's not done in the best way IMHO. My understanding is they geotarget based on location. It's better to use the user's browser language preferences, so a Spanish speaker in New York would get Spanish. I've also heard their translations are a bit incomplete, but good enough to make the purchase and have an idea of what's going on (people aren't there for the text - so that should be sufficient).

    For my mainstream celebrity blogs, I have a few different versions, exactly the same content but translated, they actually do rather well, with the majority of the traffic on them coming from search engines. In fact on one site its nearly exclusively all google traffic.

    I have a couple of blogs in Spanish that don't do that badly, but had to feed traffic and list them in directories etc to get them to work.

    I've found for blogs in other languages, you need to get them indexed by a blog engine like semrush.com, easiest way to get them indexed is by finding a site or program that submits direct to spanish search engines/blog searches. IBP is good for doing it, as it lists foreign search engines.

    So instead of geotargeting, would it be better to setup Spanish sites and offer the option to go to the English site instead?

    I know how to setup geotargeting based on countries, does anyone have a script or code snippet for language targeting?

    Also, how are you guys translating your sites?

    And, finally, daedal what is IBP?

    I've been trying various ways of translating.

    I've actually found the most effective way is not to translate, but that's based on a small trial so I would need to try it a bit more to be sure that really works.

    Code:
    <script>
    function googleTranslateElementInit() {
      new google.translate.TranslateElement({
        pageLanguage: 'en'
      });
    }
    </script><script src="//translate.google.com/translate_a/element.js?cb=googleTranslateElementInit"></script>
    That code above is effective, it shows your site as english, however if someone visits it who has a different browser language, they are given the option to get the page translated in their language, you can also add a translate bar, I just chose not to.
