    I Wonder? Web Editor Programs

Where can I go online to find a comprehensive comparison of the numerous web editing software programs? I'm familiar with a couple of programs but am shopping again for something better and easier to use. So I want to see a table listing programs such as Dreamweaver, FrontPage, Namo, etc. and their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Sorry, I don't know where that can be found but I can recommend staying away from FrontPage, it is a bloatware nightmare and enabling fp-extensions on your site will give you loads of problems with .htaccess files.

I personally use Homesite & notepad.

    cheers,
    Luke

    Pfftt..

In complete contrast to Luke i ONLY code in FrontPage

Even GWW was coded in front page then tidied up in notepad.

If you arent good at 'hand coding' FrontPage would be the package that i reccommend you go with of course though, opinions are like assholes.. everyone has ine including me

Oh and contrary to popular belief you actually dont need to have FP extensions enabled on your server to use FrontPage if you are only coding regular HTML and uploading it via CuteFTP or some other FTP application. FP Extensions are only needed if you are going to use the built in FTP application with the software which i can honestly say does suck

    Regards,

    Lee

but with frontpage, people like adding in special features like effects or forms and those will only work with fpx installed on the server....this is why I recommend that you get a proper editor instead of falling into the fp trap!

I am hoping some one will post a URL with a comparison, I would find it very interesting too.

    cheers,
    Luke

All of the WYSIWYG editors will give you some bloated code. FP 2003 is a lot better though now fortunately.

It really depends on what I want to do and everything.

I do not think that you will actually find a "true" comparison online since that website would be owned by someone who favors one editor over another.

I'll ask around - I am the admin of a FP board. They might know of a comparison.

    Hey Will,

Good to see you here. Try these, they may give you what you're looking for:

    http://mvp.wiserways.com/2003/compare.htm

    http://webdesign.about.com/cs/htmled...wyswindows.htm

    http://www.findapp.com/fMgmt/products.aspx?C=254

Myself, I started on Frontpage, switched to Dreamweaver at version 3 and have never looked back. Frontpage might have cleaned up their act, but I always found them partisan to IE, which is understandable, but at times it seemed like they fucked things up on purpose for Netscape.

I always found Dreamweaver to be much more non-partisan.

    Cheers

I know I gave these to you already in a pvt but forgot to post them here (for the others)
