    GoDaddy to sell .xxx

GoDaddy joins about 50 other registrars that have so far been approved to sell domains with the .xxx TLD.

"The company has not yet announced pricing, but other registrars have started advertising .xxx domains for a minimum of $75 per name per year – about ten times the price of the cheapest .com domain rates."

Of course, that is WAY cheaper than any other rate I have heard so far, which has ranged from $100 to $650 per .xxx domain! But I guess we will have to wait to see how pricing shakes out. General registration in the new porn-only extension is expected to begin in the fourth quarter.

Just curious... everyone beats around the bush when this is asked...

What happens if you were to be caught not using the .xxx domain? Or does anyone not really know? Of course, we'll buy .xxx to protect our branding, but can we still use .xxx if it is approved?

Well they have not made .xxx mandatory YET, I'm sure that is the master plan, but that would take much time, money and effort, I'm sure this first stage is alllll about the money, getting as much as they possibly can from our industry.

Also there has already been talk about countries set to BLOCK any site with the .xxx tld, and that's deff a BAD THING, I hear people say two things mainly...

I will NOT buy because if they don't make money it will flop like other dead tld's

I WILL buy to 'protect' my brand

The only problem with the later of those two is, how protected will your brand be if country after country ends up blocking anyone from viewing it?

Alternately there is something about locking your brand name IF you hold copyright and or trademark on your name/s you simply need to send a letter to them stating that is YOUR trademark name / brand name and they can NOT sell it.

(search other forums for more info on that it was a very hot topic for a few weeks)

So what would trademarking or copy writing cost? I'm pretty sure that it'd be less expensive over the years and would still let us say "screw you" on the tld that none of us wanted.

Well Bec that really depends on IF you are able to trademark or copyright your brand name, I would say talk to the topbucks / pink visual people as they have done all that and more over the years.

Last I knew it was $275 -$375 to trademark in the USA and under $50 for a copyright (again US prices)

Personally I'm going the "head in the sand route" because I truly believe NOTHING will really happen with .xxx (minus SOME people making money from it)

Hell it took many many years just to get this far, and the entire time they used the "to protect kids" card, and it still got hung up at every single stage of the game, it FINALLY passed and now .xxx IS a TLD but that's really where's it's stopped right now, now we get to find out WHO will offer it and how much they will charge per year.

When you boil it all down, this all goes back to one thing and one thing only..... $

I pray for the best, but I know to expect the worst :dolt:

oh and let me add this, like I just told Mrs. Loki...

Using the "To protect kids" argument with .xxx is complete and total bullshit, because as of right now... hotcooking.com MAY indeed be a pron site BUT hotcooking.xxx WOULD deff be a porn site.

If you REALLY want to keep kids from finding porn on the internet WHY would you attempt to move ALL of it to one single TLD extension???

(other then for the ability to filter, block, charge more, etc etc)

Not to bring up old news here, but the SAME cries were made during the implementation of 2257 "To protect children, to keep children from being exploited online" IE to make sure NO SITE in the adult industry featured children, and to make sure of this, Milf and grannies ALSO had to follow the exact same rules as a "teen" site did, cause EVERYONE knows, that ****'s and evil pornagraphers make a big habit of taking an underage model and then making them look like a milf or a grandma :wow:

Copy right is sort of a given as long as it is somthing that is custom. The instant you produce it you hold copyright. It never hurts to register but under the current law its not mandatory.

As for Trademark that costs a little bit but might be worth it in the long run.
