Although much of New York State has rejoiced at the passage of a new law, the Marriage Equality Act, legalizing same-sex marriage, the town board of Barker was stunned to learn, on July 11, that that law had claimed its first 'victim': Laura Fotusky, the 56-year-old town clerk, who handed in her resignation on that date, stating that it would be "against God" for her to sign a marriage license for a gay couple.
